Today we’d like to introduce you to Janae.
Hi Janae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, I always loved creating artwork. My natural inclination has always been to make things as colorful and unique possible. I particularly enjoyed school projects that required artwork and creativity because that was the language that I knew how to express myself in.
Throughout middle school, my teachers began asking me to help design their bulletin boards for school events and holidays. During this time, my love for art only grew. I studied calligraphy videos on instagram and picked up bullet journaling as a way to share my creations online. As I posted weekly, my page grew as my audience awaited my latest designs. This continued to spark my joy for creating artwork and later birthed Janae Made LLC.
After years of creating artwork for teachers and family, I filed for a business license in June of 2020, days shy of my fifteenth birthday. After Janae Made was established, I launched a website, created stickers with my Cricut Machine, and continued creating in my spare time.
A couple of years later, I shared paintings for college dorms to my TikTok Page and my business exploded from there! I remember crying tears of joy over the response that I received across my social media accounts. Ever since 2022, I have focused on creating bespoke artwork for clients across the country- Anything from hand painted canvases and tote bags, to Baby Bibles and custom sports balls.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Much like life, being a business owner has not been an easy journey. It has come with lots of tears and figuring things out along the way. I distinctly remember how hard it was for me to learn how to use a Cricut Machine and my professional printer. Other things like how to optimize my website for user experience or how to safely ship my artwork has been a constant learning curve that has gotten easier throughout the years.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My artwork is colorful, detailed, and intentionally painted. I specialize in capturing special places and moments such as college towns, U.S. landscapes, and wedding venues.
I believe that my artwork is known for its vivid detail and abundance of color.
By far, I am most proud of starting a business at the age of fourteen and being brave enough to take that leap of faith.
Besides my age, I think that my detailed style and of capturing life’s sweetest moments in each artwork is my differentiating asset- I see it as a blessing and a gift from God.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being an only child person has always played into my personal and professional growth. I have always been very independent which makes me confident in my choices and willingness to take risks. Faith however, is the most important component in terms of success. I’ve always believed that God has a plan for my creative business and faith has truly been the key to walking that plan out.
