Conversations with Chloe Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Clark.

Hi Chloe, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an entrepreneur and business mentor, and I have been volunteering with a national nonprofit as a business mentor since 2018. I also own a pet wellness brand specializing in skincare and grooming products for pets with allergies and sensitive skin. My journey began in 2015 when I adopted a dog whose persistent skin issues inspired me to create natural solutions to support her health. That experience led me to launch Simply Sage Dog Treats in 2016. Since then, it has been a true blessing to help other pet parents find relief and real solutions for their pets’ skin challenges.

In addition to running my business, I am also a blogger who writes about a wide range of topics: entrepreneurship, media visibility, productivity, and unconventional sales and marketing strategies. My approach to business is practical, easy to execute, and grounded in real-world experience, not the hype often promoted by YouTubers and social media business coaches.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! My professional background spans several industries, including creative services, event planning, real estate (commercial and residential), and publishing. I have also started multiple businesses over the years. For a long time, I felt lost while exploring different careers, but those experiences ultimately became the foundation of my entrepreneurial success. Every challenge, every setback, every “no,” every fresh start, equipped me with the skills and resilience I rely on today. I firmly believe there is always a silver lining; the key is recognizing it and using it as momentum to move forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love mentoring business owners, and that passion continually pushes me to find better ways to support their growth and success. After mentoring hundreds of small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, I began to notice a pattern. Many had participated in business programs or start-up incubators, yet the information they received wasn’t producing the results they hoped for. That is how they eventually found their way to SCORE and to me. Much of what is taught in those programs sounds impressive on the surface, but difficult to apply in real-world conditions. The curriculum often lacks meaningful research and leans heavily on trends in marketing and advertising or on corporate strategies that don’t translate to small businesses. It becomes an apples-to-oranges comparison.

I’ve met many entrepreneurs who excelled in these programs, only to be discouraged when they entered the marketplace and discovered a lack of real demand or learned that the strategies they were taught were not effective. A business idea may sound great, but that isn’t enough. Thorough research on the industry, target market, sales channels, economic conditions, and product development is essential, yet these programs rarely explore these areas in depth. Too often, they are performative and leave entrepreneurs unprepared once they step into the real world.

I am passionate about helping business owners find the tools, clarity, and confidence they need to increase revenue, expand visibility, and build credibility in the marketplace. I want entrepreneurs to learn how to sell, market, and advertise effectively, while remaining profitable. That passion led me to create a collection of affordable business resources, including worksheets, checklists, and planning tools. These digital products help entrepreneurs with pricing services, pitching for media features, identifying target markets, validating business ideas, boosting productivity, finding the right sales channels, and much more.

Anyone looking for actionable, affordable tools to grow their business can find the digital resources in my online shops: Your Business Mentor on Etsy and the Business Resources tab on the Business Advice From Chloe Clark blog.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say that luck has played a significant role in my life or business. Instead, I believe that when you prepare yourself consistently and intentionally, opportunities naturally begin to appear. The challenge is that many people operate reactively rather than proactively, and that approach rarely works in business. You cannot wait for opportunities to show up at your doorstep and simply deal with them as they come.

When people take that reactive stance, they are often unprepared, and as a result, opportunities pass them by. Someone who is always prepared does not depend on luck or good fortune. Opportunities tend to favor the individual who has a clear plan, can execute effectively, and is ready to move quickly when the moment arises.
