Today we’d like to introduce you to Tameeka Manuel.
Hi Tameeka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Tameeka Manuel, founder of Friends On the South Side (FOSS). I started FOSS because I was ready to break out of my routine and truly connect with other women. I found myself at home, watching other people build friendships, create memories, and enjoy life together—and I realized I wanted that, too. I didn’t just want to observe community from the sidelines; I wanted to be part of one. What began as a small circle of women quickly grew into a thriving community—a space where women can be themselves, feel supported, and enjoy curated experiences without having to travel far for quality events.
In the early days, we were just a handful of women meeting for lunch, conversations, and small outings. But the more we gathered, the more I realized how many women were craving real sisterhood, intentional spaces, and opportunities to grow, learn, and unwind. What started as casual meetups evolved into workshops, trips, supporting community events, and eventually a full-fledged network.
Today, FOSS has grown to nearly 4,000 members—and we’re still expanding. But more important than the numbers is the quality of the community we’ve built. We focus on meaningful connections, intentional experiences, and genuine relationships, ensuring that every member feels supported, celebrated, and inspired. FOSS continues to evolve with the women who show up, staying true to our mission: to create a space where women are celebrated, supported, and inspired. This community was built on connection, and it’s connection that keeps it thriving.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, it’s been a smooth journey. Even with the challenge of managing a large and growing group, the experience has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing women connect, support each other, and grow together has made every effort worthwhile.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Friends On The South Side ?
Friends On the South Side (FOSS) is more than just a women’s community – it’s a space for connection, growth, and celebration. I am also a proud member of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce through my travel business, FOSS Luxury Travel, where I specialize in group travel and events.
We specialize in creating curated experiences, from workshops and networking events to travel trips and social gatherings, all designed to bring women together in meaningful ways. What sets FOSS apart is our focus on intentional, high-quality experiences and the variety of subgroups we offer, including a Bible study, book club, and golf club. These options meet women where they are – whether they want to learn, grow, relax, or simply have fun. We’re known for building genuine connections and providing a space where women feel celebrated and supported without judgment.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the community we’ve built and the trust we’ve earned. Our members know that when they show up, they are valued, respected, and inspired. We want readers to know that FOSS is inclusive, engaging, and all about creating moments that matter – whether it’s through events, workshops, group travel experiences, or just showing up for each other.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always creative and loved finding ways to express myself. I spent hours in my room writing music and letting my imagination run wild, and I loved dancing – learning choreography from music videos just to entertain myself. I also wrote short plays and would reenact my scripts with friends and family, which became another outlet for my imagination. Even though I knew a lot of people, I had a small, close-knit circle of friends, which taught me early on the value of meaningful connections. That blend of creativity, self-expression, and an appreciation for genuine relationships is something that’s stayed with me and eventually inspired what I do today with FOSS.
