Today we’d like to introduce you to Delva Michel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins in a small town in Haiti, where my brother, Castel, first inspired my love for music. That spark eventually grew into a full journey as a working and gigging musician. Over the years, I rehearsed in countless studios — many of them lacking the quality, accessibility, or environment musicians truly need. Sometimes productions were simply trying to save money; other times, the few good studios were priced too high or not available when we needed them.
Those experiences opened my eyes to a gap in the industry. Musicians needed a space where they didn’t just rehearse — they needed a place where they could feel inspired, feel respected, and feel like they were stepping onto a stage every time. That idea became the foundation for Prep & Shed.
As a co-owner, building this space has been a journey filled with challenges, learning curves, and a lot of determination. Starting any business from the ground up isn’t simple, but I’ve always believed in the power of never giving up. Educating myself, staying connected in the creative community, speaking up, and asking questions have all played a huge role in getting here.
I’m also not doing this alone — and I’m proud of that. I’m grateful for my business partners and creative collaborators who have been part of shaping Prep & Shed. And I’m especially thankful for people like Stanley Jean and Frantz Dorcin, whose contributions were essential during the buildout of the studio.
Today, what brings me the most pride is knowing that every person who walks through our doors can feel the intention behind what we built. Prep & Shed is created by musicians, for musicians. And while my story is still being written, this chapter — co-owning a space that supports artists and fuels creativity — is one of the most meaningful yet.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but every challenge has shaped the studio into what it is today. Starting Prep & Shed from the ground up came with a lot of hurdles. From managing timelines, and unexpected setbacks, it was a real test of patience and resilience.
As a co-owner, there were moments where I questioned if we would actually open. We were building something that didn’t exist before, and that means making decisions without a perfect blueprint. We had to learn a lot in real time — everything from zoning requirements to soundproofing, equipment sourcing, scheduling systems, and marketing.
Another challenge was simply awareness. When you’re new, especially in a niche business like a rehearsal studio, you have to work twice as hard to let musicians know you exist and that you’re here to serve them. There were long nights of strategizing, educating ourselves, networking, and speaking up to get the resources and information we needed.
But those struggles also made the wins feel even bigger. We’re a small team, we wore every hat — customer service, cleaning crew, scheduling, marketing, tech troubleshooting, and everything in between. It was a lot to manage, but every challenge also helped define our systems, our voice, and the culture of Prep & Shed.
I’m proud that Prep & Shed fills a real need in our community. Musicians finally have a high-quality, accessible space where they can prepare, create, and feel inspired — not just ‘make do.’ I truly believe that when artists have the right environment, their best work comes out.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Prep & Shed is a music rehearsal studio built by musicians, for musicians. We opened in 2025 with one goal in mind: to finally give local artists in East Marietta a high-quality, accessible space to level up their craft. After years of rehearsing in subpar rooms, we wanted to change the experience completely — so we created studios that are fully acoustically treated, equipped with top-tier sound systems, and designed to feel more like stepping onto a stage than stepping into a plain room with gear.
What really sets us apart is that we understand the needs of artists firsthand. We didn’t just build a business — we built the space we always wished we had. Every detail was created with intention, from the sound quality to the atmosphere, so musicians can walk in and immediately feel inspired and supported.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that artists can feel the care and thought behind what we’ve built. Prep & Shed isn’t just a space you rent; it’s a place where preparation meets inspiration. We want readers to know that whether you’re a band, a solo artist, a vocalist, a producer, or someone just getting back into music, our studios are here to help you sound your best, feel your best, and grow your artistry.
Our mission is simple: give musicians a space they can be proud of, one that helps bring their music to life.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Honestly, the biggest thing that’s helped me succeed is staying resilient and grounded in my purpose. I’ve had to push through a lot and adapt along the way, but keeping my “why” at the center makes it easier. I really care about what we’re building at Prep & Shed and the community we’re serving. That mix of not giving up and staying true to the mission is what keeps me going and has gotten me this far.
