Rising Stars: Meet Dr. Maria Byrd of Atlanta, GA

Hi Dr. Maria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Dr. Maria Byrd is a woman of God, Prophet, motivational speaker, author, radio show host, music artist, Christian Counselor, and entrepreneur just to name a few. Residing in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Dr. Eric Byrd, and their three beautiful children, she carries a global passion to spread the truth of God’s Word and inspire transformation through faith and practical empowerment. Her journey began with a deep love for communication and service. In 2007, she earned her undergraduate degree in Mass Communications from Francis Marion University. Years later, driven by her desire to help people grow emotionally and spiritually, she completed her Master’s Degree in Christian Humanities and Doctorate Degree in Christian Counseling. Over time, Maria’s calling expanded into writing, media, ministry, and entrepreneurship. She is the author of eight books, including her bestselling abstinence curriculum, “Touch Free,” which equips believers with practical tools for maintaining purity. Together with her husband, she manages Embyrd Design & Print Agency in Norcross, GA, blending creativity with ministry to impact communities near and far. Maria also hosts the Atlanta-based broadcast “The Conversation with Maria Byrd” and co-hosts “The Prophetic Moment” with her husband, airing weekly in South Africa and reaching thousands worldwide. Her broadcasting platforms provide a space for transparent conversations and biblical teaching, encouraging listeners to become all that God created them to be. Her personal motto remains: “I don’t claim to have all of the answers, but I believe we can at least start the conversation.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not always been smooth, but each challenge has developed Maria’s strength, compassion, and calling. Her path has included seasons of transition, moments of uncertainty, and times where she had to trust God without seeing the full picture. Balancing ministry, family, education, business, and global media responsibilities required her to grow spiritually and personally. She has faced obstacles such as managing multiple assignments, overcoming self-doubt, and navigating the pressure to lead with excellence while still evolving herself. Yet every struggle shaped her resilience and deepened her dependence on God. Maria believes that growth is often birthed through discomfort, and her challenges became stepping-stones that strengthened her voice, expanded her reach, and prepared her for the platforms she now occupies. She celebrates the process because it molded her into the leader, mother, wife, and servant she is today.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as fully becoming who God created me to be. It’s not measured by titles, platforms, or accomplishments, but by obedience, impact, and inner alignment with purpose. Success is waking up every day committed to serving others, using the gifts God placed inside me, and making a difference in the lives I’m assigned to.

For me, success looks like transformation—seeing people healed, empowered, and walking boldly in their identity. It’s raising a strong family, honoring God in my work, and remaining authentic regardless of the season I’m in. Success is also about stewardship: managing my ministry, business, gifts, and influence with excellence, integrity, and humility.

Ultimately, I believe success is not a destination but a journey of continual growth, faith, and surrender. As long as I am becoming better, helping others rise, and fulfilling God’s purpose for my life, I consider that true success.
