Life & Work with DeJunae Dominique of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeJunae Dominique.

Hi DeJunae, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
DeJunae Dominique, originally from the First State, founded the Laila Nicole Foundation in response to her own personal trauma. Her mission is to raise awareness about menstrual health among women and young ladies of color. By breaking down long-standing barriers, DeJunae hopes that her efforts will help ensure that no other woman has to endure the pain she once experienced

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, this journey hasn’t been a smooth road far from it. It’s been full of bumps, setbacks, and moments that tested my strength. But every challenge has shaped me and pushed me to grow. Even though it hasn’t been easy, it’s been worth it. Each step, each struggle, and each breakthrough has brought me closer to my purpose and to the impact I’m trying to make.

One of the biggest struggles on this journey has been trying to find my identity through pain learning who I am while navigating experiences that could’ve easily broken me. Another challenge has been accepting that the people you love won’t always understand your healing process. Sometimes they misread your growth, mishandle your emotions, or simply can’t meet you where you are. Realizing that love doesn’t always equal understanding has been tough, but it’s also been a powerful part of growing into myself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Right now, I’ve been focused on promoting my organization, the Laila Nicole Foundation (www.thelailanicolefoundation.org
), and pushing my new children’s book, Aria’s Big Change (www.iamdejunae.com
). The book is designed for young girls, helping them start those early conversations about their bodies, the changes they’ll experience, and how to embrace those changes with confidence.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as becoming the best version of myself while staying true to my purpose. It’s not just about accomplishments it’s about growth, healing, and using my experiences to uplift others. Success is when my work impacts someone’s life in a positive, meaningful way. It’s knowing that I turned my pain into power and created something that can help the next person. For me, success is purpose, impact, and authenticity.
