Today we’d like to introduce you to Tadiwa.
Hi Tadiwa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tadiwa Nashë I am a singer, songwriter and poet. I was born in Zimbabwe and raise in America. Growing up moving around a lot art was where I found my ability to express myself and share my story. I often found through stories is how we connect with others. Throughout high school and college I released several albums and performed at school and underground events.
When I moved to Atlanta I found myself yearning to see others connect. I created an Event called. T.Y.S (Tell Your Story). T.Y.S is a community art event held annually (hopefully it can expand to 4 times a year) where artists come to tell their story based off the theme of the event. There’s an interactive piece where the audience gets to emerge themselves in questions that allows them to find commonalities, differences, or lessons from one another. This event has come to be deeply enriching to others and I strive to have connection within community grow.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth at all. It can be challenging to believe in yourself, especially as an artist people tend to ask “what else do you do”. The battle forever has been to feel firm in the identity of being an artist and being certain that, That is enough. It hard to be a dreamer in a world where dreams aren’t a lucrative currency. Maintaining faith in yourself despite their being no visible fruits to your everlasting labor.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter and singer first. I wrote my first song when I was 8 years old. “Don’t you ever walk away from me” it was that line repeated over and over again.
When I got to high school I learned about poetry, and learned my lyrics don’t always need sound.
I’m known for my play on words, deeply reflective and soulful lyrics. I like to blend genres of jazz, hip hop and rnb. I like to blur the lines of genre to express myself.
I’m most proud of my firsts. First album remedies for blooming I was 18 years old with no clue what I was doing.
My first video, I developed a concept and watched it fall into fruition.
My first poetry book a collection of poetries over 8 years that I self published
My first event being T.Y.S, it was everything I hoped it would be.
I think the thing to set me apart from others is my perspective and resilience.
What are your plans for the future?
In the future I want to create an album with a live band playing throughout the project. In a world of computerization and AI I want to maintain and uplift the raw realness of musicians. I want encourage humaness in music. It’s about us and our perspective that needs to be shared.
I also plan to make TYS a consistent event to encourage community building and connection. I want us to be social without media.
