Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Goodman.
Hi Natasha , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in business for 5 years and although I love being an entrepreneur now, I was terrified of getting started. I registered my private practice in 2016 and was just paying my annual fees and wondering when I will take the leap. I decided to join a group practice at the end of 2019 and was comfortable with where I was…and wondered, did I really need my own business? During the pandemic, the lack of security in the group practice gave me the push I needed to take the leap on my own. I started my practice in September of 2020 and each year has been better than the last. My confidence as a whole has grown tremendously and I’m doing things that I didn’t know I could do. I even started running again!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. My biggest challenge in the first 2 years of business was low revenue and having to do everything on my own. I’m thankful for my friends and family who supported me in my first couple of years of business as they provided me a place to stay that was more affordable than living on my own. I did my virtual therapy sessions and virtual speaking engagements in the basement of their homes. I worked with what I had and created space for my office with decorative flowers and leaves on the wall behind me. I couldn’t afford a team, so I had to figure out my content and marketing myself. I learned a lot during the first few years and realized how much goes into creating a website and YouTube channel. Another struggle during my first year in business was juggling my business and completing my dissertation for my doctoral program.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a licensed mental health therapist who specializes in helping Black women find their purpose, build their self-esteem and build healthy relationships. In my 13 years of working in the mental health field, I have helped individuals and families improve their ability to set boundaries, communicate effectively, improve self-care, and improve their self-esteem. What sets me apart from others is my holistic and intuitive approach and ability to effectively challenge clients who may self-sabotage or lack accountability.
I am proud of the growth that my brand has experienced over the last 5 years. Chasing Balanced Wellness is about being open to change and finding what works best for the season you’re in. I provide individual, family, and couples therapy utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Gottman’s Couples Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as the main therapeutic techniques. I also provide clinical supervision to associate counselors in their journey of being fully licensed and beyond.
I recently opened a “sister” business called Balanced Wellness Integrative Services providing full spectrum Doula services to Woman of Color in Atlanta and surrounding areas.
Lastly, I have a variety of journals and workbooks available for purchase on Amazon.
