Meet Sushma Chada of Vitality Bowls Suwanee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sushma Chada.

Hi Sushma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been a resident in the Atlanta Suburbs for the last 30 years. I started my career as a Software Engineer in the IT Industry and worked my way up during my 25 years tenure there. I always had an interest in Health and Nutrition from a very young age. It started with making healthy juices at home for my family’s health and well-being and slowly became a passion over time. I have always loved reading about the latest trends in nutrition, checking out new healthy recipes, and getting creative to make my own version. I love to make and serve food for others and feel good especially if it’s healthy. I came across Vitality Bowls a few years ago and my family was a frequent visitor to the location in Alpharetta. It was always a big challenge to find a good healthy place to eat, but this was one place where we felt good after eating out. My whole family loves the food at Vitality Bowls because there’s a wide variety of offerings on the menu and they are not only healthy, but also delicious. We can always easily find something that we like on the menu, and everyone has a favorite there. I wanted to bring a healthy restaurant closer to the community and neighborhood where I live so that it’s easy for other families like ours to find a place to eat clean. Vitality Bowls’ strong commitment to bring health and wellness to every community across the country through fresh, high-quality superfoods in an allergy-friendly environment resonated with me. Becoming a franchisee and opening a Vitality Bowls location was the perfect opportunity for me to fulfill my passion while serving the community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As they say, “Nothing in life comes easy” and this has been true in my case. I am an immigrant who moved to the US at a young age and tried to make the best out of life for me and my family while overcoming several challenges. I believe in honesty, hard work, and perseverance and this has helped me so far in life. However, owning my own business is a whole new ball game. While starting up the location and operating the business came with its own initial challenges, the biggest areas of opportunity have been brand and product awareness, building loyalty with customers, making people aware of this location, and instilling health-minded values to our employees and customers. I constantly work hard to help them trust and believe in the food we sell the same way I do to show that healthy eating should not come with sacrificing deliciousness or taste, which is why I am striving to make Vitality Bowls the go-to destination for quick and healthy meals made with clean, high-quality ingredients. The experiences I came across in my personal life and previous career have definitely shaped me to be a stronger person who is ready to face any challenges that come my way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Vitality Bowls Suwanee location is a franchisee of the parent Vitality Bowls Superfood Café in California. The Suwanee location was opened in July 2024. Vitality Bowls is a superfood cafe with a focus on providing top-quality food and offers the world’s healthiest superfoods in an allergy safe kitchen with no cross-contamination of ingredients. The first location was opened in 2011 in California and started franchising in 2014. The main superstar of our café is the açai, which is considered the leading superfood in the world due to its high nutritional content. Vitality Bowls specializes in making delicious açaí bowls, which are a thick blend of the açaí berry topped with organic granola and a selection of superfood ingredients. Along with açaí bowls, we also serve smoothies, freshly pressed juices, and have a wide variety of savory items such as wraps and paninis, salads, grain bowls, and more! We also keep the menu interesting by adding new items all the time and featuring a seasonal bowl each month. Our recent additions, the Coffee Crunch Smoothie and the Create Your Own Bowl, have been very popular. All items on the menu are made fresh to order in a kitchen that is designed to avoid cross contamination of common food allergens. We believe that every ingredient matters and source each ingredient responsibly. Each Vitality Bowls dish is crafted with care and we do not use any artificial preservatives or ingredient fillers such as ice or frozen yogurt, giving the purest taste possible to each item. Our location is open for dine-in, takeout, and catering for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a kids menu available as well.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family played a major role in standing up this location and supporting me all the time through any challenges that come up. I am a newcomer to the business world with hardly any experience in this area and it took a steep learning curve to understand all the aspects of running the business and performing the day-to-day operations. It requires a lot of time commitment and endless hours. I haven’t been available to my family the way I used to be before and they have been very understanding all along.
My husband Sreekar supported my decision to quit my job and change my career to follow my dreams. Knowing fully that this came with challenges both financially and at a personal level, he still boosted my confidence and trusted me to take this big step. His support and guidance to get through any issues that come up has been very encouraging.
My two lovely daughters, Riya and Reema, have helped me with the initial setup at the cafe, training the staff, being available, and taking up extra responsibilities to work and manage the café while pursuing their studies. They have been very responsible making it easier for me to follow my passion and run the business.
My mom, Shobha, gave me confidence and helped me during the initial setup and opening of the cafe.
My amazing staff who help run the café, provide excellent customer service, and follow all the rules and protocols to keep the kitchen safe and clean to support the goal and the mission of the café.
My local community schools and local businesses for trusting us with their meals and supporting us through this journey.
My franchisor Vitality Bowls for trusting me to partner with them to open this location and for helping with initial training, setup, and providing ongoing support.
