Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Elliston.
Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Incorporated Atlanta Soto Zen Center (www.aszc.org) in 1977 – continuously operating ever since. Trained thousands of Atlantans in Zen meditation, now serving a national network of over a dozen active centers in USA & Canada – under the umbrella organization of the Silent Thunder Order (www.storder.org) incorporated in 2010.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No – financial & personality issues, typical of all 501c3 NFP groups, including 2 mass BOD resignations led by disgruntled wannabe leaders.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional artist and amateur musician. My artwork can be seen at my Atlanta gallery’s site – www.kailinart.com – I now have representation in Nashville and Boston as well.
The way I work sith the medium – watercolor plus sumi ink – is rather unique in the history of art and its current practice – I let the medium do the talking. Not overly proud of the images, as I only set the parameters of their genesis – they are formed by the natural process of earth, wind, fire, and water.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t give up.
