Today we’d like to introduce you to Madalitso Zulu.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My photography journey began when I borrowed my sister’s camera and realized how fascinating it was. She rarely used it, so I had a few chances to experiment, and those moments were enough to spark something in me. Eventually, I bought my own camera, and from that point on, I felt this constant urge to capture everything around me.
I spent hours watching YouTube videos, exploring different platforms, and practicing whenever I could. Even now, I consider myself a student of the craft, always learning, always improving. I don’t mind investing in books or resources that teach the fundamentals because photography is something I truly love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road is ever completely smooth, but my journey has been meaningful because it has shaped me into a better photographer. I’m currently in the process of fully establishing my photography business, and it definitely comes with its own challenges. I’m still learning, growing, and working to improve every day. The support I’ve received from the people around me means everything; they’re a big part of what makes this journey worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer who specializes in portrait and lifestyle photography. I genuinely love every part of the craft, and people often know me as the guy who always has a camera with him because I want to be ready for any moment. In my work, I’m known for authenticity. I aim to keep things simple, true to reality, and naturally beautiful.
I’m proud of my journey, especially starting from a place where I didn’t even have my own camera to now working toward building my own photography business. And honestly, I feel like I’m just getting started. This journey is long, but I plan to enjoy every part of it.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t chase every new trend. Instead, I focus on creating my own style and bringing a unique perspective to the images I capture. My goal is to create photos that feel real, timeless, and true to the moment.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to be patient. Photography is a journey, and you won’t learn everything in a day; it happens over time. You have to put in the hours to develop your creative eye. Focus on the basics, build your skills, and get out to shoot as much as you can. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
It’s not about having the most expensive gear. What matters is what you can create with what you already have. And try not to compare your work to people who’ve been doing this for years. Just focus on becoming better than you were yesterday. Don’t shy away from feedback either; feedback is what helps you grow.
