Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Chevis.
Hi Rob, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in Houston, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Advertising with a minor in Graphic Communications from the University of Houston. Creativity, storytelling, and visual communication have always come naturally to me, and they’ve continued to shape how I see the world long after college.
My portfolio is a testament to this, featuring diverse projects ranging from crafting websites for law firms, churches, and politicians to collaborating with musicians on album and mixtape covers. My expertise extends to designing digital and printed materials, spanning presentations, brochures, magazines, and advertisements, catering to a spectrum of clients, from the corporate realm to the vibrant arts scene.
its always been a passion of mine to use my personal talents within our community to help black owned businesses grow and have a digital presence, which played in strong role in my relocation to Atlanta.
I’m currently also working on building a YouTube channel to express myself and my interests in new ways.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey definitely came with its challenges, but each one pushed me to grow in ways I’m truly grateful for. One of the biggest challenges I faced was moving to Atlanta with little to no friends. Starting over in a new city can feel isolating, and I had to push myself to build a support system from the ground up.
On top of that, stepping into a Senior Graphic Designer role at a commercial real estate firm came with its own set of hurdles. I had never worked in that industry before, so I had to quickly learn the landscape while proving myself in a completely new environment. I stayed curious, stayed present, and got involved. I joined groups like BREAL (Black Real Estate Alliance) and the ACBR Diversity Mentorship Program, which helped me understand the industry, expand my network, and find mentors who could guide me.
At the same time, I tapped into social media to meet new people and slowly built a circle of friends who made the city feel like home.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I primarily focus on Print & Web Graphic Solutions from Business Cards, Posters & Brochures to Logos, Flyers & Album Art.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
While relocating to Atlanta was a huge risk for me (I quit my job of five years to freelance and build my clientele), I’ve continued to take the biggest risks of my life after moving here. Once you take that first leap of faith and it works, nothing can stop you.
