Life & Work with Ari Walden of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ari Walden.

Hi Ari , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for hair started at 8 years old. I told my mom to hand me the brush and I took over ever since. I went to Paul Mitchell Academy in Ohio right out of high school. Moved to Atlanta and worked in a few salons. I tried purchasing a salon I was with for years and it fell through last minute from a lease transfer issue. My fiance at the time saw the for lease sign in the yard on Pharr rd. and we inquired. The owners loved the idea of bringing it back to a salon as their father previously ran it as Robert’s Hair Styling. I’m grateful they took the chance on me. I never imagined the ability to open my salon in Buckhead.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Unfortunately it’s really hard to be taken seriously as a single female with a new small business. I ran into trouble with commercial real estate leasing companies because I wasn’t established despite having financial backup and taking over an existing business I was already a part of. My now husband really stepped in to help and finally some doors opened. My strong independent woman ego took a hit. I learned a great lesson to lean into my favorite mantra, ” Work smarter not harder.” If someone I trust is in my corner and can use their experience and knowledge to help me, let them. Those who say they did it all by themselves are probably forgetting the people who helped lift them up. Glorifying the struggle doesn’t make your success more deserving.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a cosmetologist which certifies me in hair, skin, and nails. I love all things related to the beauty industry. My specialty is helping clients achieve their dream look. Whether that’s on their wedding day or every day style. I strive to give a realistic game plan for your beauty needs. I don’t expect my clients to know how to explain what they need. It’s my job to do a THOROUGH consultation and help us both find clarity in how to get from A to B with integrity. I love ensuring I give my clients the best resources and knowledge to maintain their looks within their lifestyle. My connection to clients as friends and people instead of just a transaction is what sets me apart. I care about you as a whole not just that moment. I’m probably most known for hair coloring, hair health, and efficiency. I’m most proud of creating a safe space for clients of all ethnicities and hair textures to receive beauty services from amazing people.
