Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Queena.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began long before I ever stepped into a counseling office or taught my first graduate course. I grew up deeply attuned to the emotional landscapes around me such as the untold stories, the unseen wounds, the resilience people carried quietly. That awareness shaped everything that came next and moved me into the work that I am currently rooted in.
I started my career in mental health with a desire to help people feel seen, safe, and understood. Over time, my work expanded far beyond traditional therapy. I pursued advanced training, earned multiple state licenses, and eventually stepped into counselor education, supervising future clinicians and teaching the next generation of mental health professionals. I became particularly passionate about culturally responsive practice, social justice, and trauma-informed care, and honestly, those values became the backbone of my career.
A turning point came when I began working in immigration mental-health evaluations. I realized quickly that these were not just assessments: they were lifelines. They were opportunities to help people reclaim dignity, find safety, and have their stories honored in systems not built for their protection. That work became a calling, blending clinical expertise with advocacy, cultural humility, and human rights.
From there, my entrepreneurial path unfolded. I built Walking in Wellness, LLC which is a practice grounded in trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and community healing. I developed programs centering Black women, empowerment, and rest recovery. I expanded into late-night therapy, created writing-mindfulness spaces for creatives, and designed training programs for clinicians and educators. Over time, my career became a tapestry of everything I care about: healing, teaching, advocacy, creativity, and liberation.
Today, my work continues to evolve. I’m leaning into joy, rest, and intentional living. I am moving toward a life and career that nourishes me.
Where I am today is the result of many pivots, many lessons, and a deep commitment to honoring both my clients’ humanity and my own. My story is still unfolding, but I’m finally shaping it on my own terms with more spaciousness, more purpose, and more joy than ever before.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every meaningful chapter of my career came with a plot twist, a lesson, or a “Lord, why me?” moment that eventually turned into growth. There were seasons where I was working multiple jobs, juggling clients, teaching, supervising, running programs, and still trying to maintain a personal life. There were moments of burnout where I questioned everything, including whether I should move to a remote island and sell coconuts instead of juggling jobs. I joked more than once to my friends: “If balance is the goal, then why does my life feel like a seesaw someone’s jumping on?”
Financial fears also made the journey…interesting. Choosing rest and wellness over hustle culture is beautiful in theory, but your rent doesn’t care about your spiritual awakening. There were times when I wondered if pursuing joy meant I’d also be pursuing roommates. Through every obstacle however, I kept coming back to the same truth: I was created for this work. Even when the road wasn’t smooth, it was still mine and each challenge carved out a deeper sense of purpose, resilience, and clarity about the life I want to create.
I’m still on the journey, but now I walk it with much more humor, way more boundaries, and a growing commitment to joy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Walking in Wellness, LLC is my therapy and wellness practice dedicated to culturally responsive, trauma-informed care. I created this space to help people feel seen, supported, and grounded especially those navigating stress, burnout, identity concerns, and major life transitions. My practice provides individual, family and couples therapy that centers clients’ lived experiences, cultural backgrounds, and resilience, life coaching and Immigration mental-health evaluations for VAWA, U-Visa, T-Visa, asylum, hardship waivers, and other forms of immigration relief. I’m known for creating an environment that feels safe, affirming, and collaborative where clients can explore their narratives without judgment.
Walking in Wellness, LLC offers therapy that honors the whole person. We don’t rely on rigid, one-size-fits-all approaches; instead, we tailor each session to the client’s voice, strengths, and goals.
For immigration evaluations, my practice stands out for its thoroughness, compassion, and cultural context. I approach each evaluation with the precision required by the legal system and the humanity required by the individuals behind each case.
I’m proud that the brand reflects my values: compassion, cultural humility, integrity, and advocacy. Clients feel genuinely understood, and attorneys trust that my evaluations are both clinically sound and trauma-informed.
Walking in Wellness is more than a practice. It’s a commitment to honoring people’s stories and helping them reclaim wellness on their own terms. Whether someone seeks therapy or an immigration evaluation, they will be met with care, respect, and expertise.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Atomic Habits, The 12 Week Year and the 4 hour Work Week were game changers for me. The Calm App is my absolute fave. In terms of Podcasts, definitely Therapy for Black Girls. I also love Lena Waithe’s podcast, Legacy Talk.
