Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Off Canvas Designs officially launched in 2023, but the story started long before then. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had an artistic knack. Whether I was creating graphics, styling parties for close family and friends, or painting furniture just for the fun of it. Creative expression has always been in the mix. What I didn’t know at the time was the passion that was poured into these things would eventually grow into what you see today.
So what was the pivotal moment that pushed us into business? Funny enough, it started from a small vendor market during the post-pandemic time. I was buying something from a booth – when I asked how to pay, the vendor pulled out a QR code printed out on a folded sheet of paper. Contactless payments started to boom during this time, but the presentation felt… off. It worked, sure, but it didn’t match their beautiful table display nor their brand.
I paid, grabbed one of their cards, and walked away, but my mind couldn’t let it go. I kept thinking, there has to be a better way. Something cleaner, possibly branded, and more professional. Something that could help small businesses show up the way they deserved to.
I ended up contacting them back and making a sign for them, then another one for a friend. I posted it on social media and boom, over 60 orders came in that same day! That’s when I realized there was something bigger happening: a genuine need for intentional, beautifully crafted details that allow small businesses to stand out.
That moment is what sparked the birth of Off Canvas Designs. The name reflects our belief in stepping “off the canvas”, ditching the cookie-cutter stuff from big retailers and dreaming up bold ideas that stand out.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has this journey been smooth? Definitely not, most small businesses will tell you the path has its bumps, and we’re no exception! I had to learn business etiquette 101 on the fly, deal with the occasional equipment meltdown right in the middle of a deadline, and even start completely over on a project 4 hours in – the list truly goes on. But even with the challenges, it’s been a rewarding journey. We’ve been blessed with incredible customers who’ve supported us from day one, and that consistency has helped us to keep climbing, learning, and growing every step of the way.

Remember the vision was given to YOU. Your journey in entrepreneurship will be different from others. There will always be something new to learn and hurdles to cross. Stay adaptable, trust your gut, remain authentic and most importantly, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
