Meet Rodney Smith of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Smith.

Rodney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is simple. My love of food came from my family. Both sides always were in the kitchen as southerners that as always. So I would be in the kitchen with my aunts and the grill and smoker either my uncles and dad. One day I went to a family gathering and make brunch and a chef themselves asked me why wasn’t I a chef and I explained to them I been thinking about it and once I got home later that week. I looked looked for a school and months later I enrolled into Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Mid way through my journey I started doing pop up dinners. Once I started 1619 I kinda found my way. Cooking with love serving a experience while telling my story

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth. I been challenged all the time pushing my limits, making sure everything goes right and slotvof times or never does.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My story telling and ratatouille dinners is what sets me apart from other dinners. Being creative on how southern food can be prepared and presented. To talk about how my upbringing can relate to other and what our ancestors had to do to what we do now. Setting standards bigger standards for our culture. Outlining black excellence based of black slavery. French southern
