Meet Kawunda Pryor of Klassic Konfections by Kawunda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kawunda Pryor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
started my baking journey around 2005, sharing my creations mainly with family and at work functions. The idea of transforming my passion into a business truly began to take shape one Christmas, around 2015, when my mom gifted me a Kitchen Aid mixer and a church cookbook filled with wonderful homemade recipes. By 2017, my business had a name, though I was still only baking casually at the time.
Things became official in 2019 when I registered my business with the State of Georgia, which allowed me to start focusing on holiday sales and participating in local market events in Macon, where I found great success. The pandemic, while challenging for many, provided me with a unique opportunity to grow my skills and my business while working from home. I connected with local organizations to learn about entrepreneurship and the ins and outs of running a business.
In 2024, I brought my knowledge and business to Lawrenceville, Georgia, where I’ve recently acquired full business licensure and certifications with Gwinnett County. I am excited to share my baked goods with the local community and other businesses!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey of entrepreneurship is not for the faint at heart. It has many ups and downs, from pricing, to market influx, from many sales to no sales, With being in a new area, its like starting over again with no leads, but many opportunities for growth. Choosing the right opportunity at the right time can make all the difference.

Doing the work requires a daily choice that you make to be better, to try, to be vulnerable but also to be persistent and intentionally working on the business.

The journey to entrepreneurship isn’t without its challenges, but with consistency and perseverance I’m still doing what I love.

Some of the biggest challenges would have to be the constant increase in cost for everyday items such as eggs, butter, sugar and product packaging to thriving in one location to starting again in a new area where no one knows you or your products.

With prayer, my commitment to my business, I remain confident that things will pick up this year.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Klassic Konfections by Kawunda is a home based bakery business located in Lawrenceville Ga by way of Macon GA. The business has been producing scratch made baked southern classics since 2019 including pound cakes, layered cakes such as caramel, chocolate, pineapple, coconut and other flavors, and cupcakes to name a few items.
What sets me apart is that I focus on recipes that originated from family members and are primarily made from scratch. While I’m not the flashy, decorative items that others provide, my designs are simple and timeless.

The thing that I am most proud of is that I can make a difference just by something I bake. A sweet treat always seem to put a smile on someone’s face no matter the day.

I believe God placed this business in my heart to reach many, to bless others, and to be a ray of sweetness in a sometimes bitter world.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is having my children witness the ministry behind entrepreneurship and they get to see the impact from just purchasing the ingredients to presenting the product to the customers.

This matters because I always want my children to go after their dreams, always seek God in what they do and put in their best work.

My business matters because its more than just a small business. Its a unique way to use the gift that God blessed me with in baking, meeting and reaching His people and making an impact one cake or cupcake at a time.
