Today we’d like to introduce you to Yining Li.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out simply loving to draw. What began as a personal interest gradually turned into a deeper curiosity about how images can tell stories and connect with people.

As I studied illustration and motion media design, I realized that visuals don’t exist on their own—they have the opportunity to live within brands and products. This insight led me to explore how design can facilitate communication between brands and their audiences, allowing me to combine creativity with structure and purpose.

Today, I work as a visual and brand designer, collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring ideas to life through illustration, motion, and digital content. My focus has shifted from creating individual visuals to building cohesive visual systems that feel clear, thoughtful, and human.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me was learning how to navigate uncertainty—both creatively and professionally. Early on, I focused heavily on craft, but transitioning from making visuals to designing within real-world constraints like timelines, stakeholders, and business goals took time.

Another challenge was learning to communicate my ideas clearly across disciplines. Working with people from different backgrounds pushed me to articulate my thinking more intentionally and to listen more carefully. That process wasn’t always easy, but it helped me grow beyond my comfort zone.

Looking back, these challenges reshaped how I approach design today. They taught me to be more adaptable, more thoughtful, and more aware of the human side of collaboration.

I work as a visual and brand designer, focusing on how design functions within brand and product systems. My work centers on building visual languages that help brands communicate clearly and consistently across different touchpoints.

I specialize in illustration-driven and visual-first approaches that support brand storytelling, product presentation, and digital experiences. Rather than creating isolated visuals, I focus on how design elements work together as part of a cohesive system—ensuring they can scale, adapt, and remain meaningful over time.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to connect creative thinking with brand strategy. I enjoy collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and translating abstract ideas into visual solutions that feel intentional, practical, and human.

What sets me apart is my system-oriented mindset. I see design not just as decoration, but as a way to shape how a brand is perceived, understood, and experienced.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality I value most is intentionality. I’ve learned that good design isn’t just about making things look appealing—it’s about understanding context, purpose, and people.

Being intentional means taking the time to ask the right questions, to listen carefully, and to consider how each visual decision fits into a larger brand system. It helps me move beyond surface-level aesthetics and create work that feels thoughtful, consistent, and meaningful.

This mindset has shaped how I collaborate with others and how I approach problem-solving. It allows me to balance creativity with clarity, and intuition with structure—qualities that have been essential to my growth and success as a designer.
