Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Hirsch.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From a very young age, I developed an obsession with Apple products, design, and the idea that technology could feel sophisticated, intentional, and human. That curiosity was paired with a strong work ethic instilled in me by my parents and reinforced early on by the incredible people at BB’s Bagels in Alpharetta. Being around people who showed up every day, worked hard, and treated community like family shaped how I approach everything I do.
Music has been just as constant in my life. I started drumming at six years old and never stopped. Over the years, I’ve played in multiple bands, learning discipline, collaboration, and consistency along the way. Today, I play with a national Green Day tribute band, Letterbomb, and I also drum for my girlfriend, Danielle McLean, a singer songwriter. Whether I’m performing live, helping with mixes, or assisting with music videos, being part of the creative process in different ways has always been important to me.
Alongside music, I’ve always loved technology, not just using it, but understanding how it works. I was drawn early on to film, music production, and anything that let me create. Eventually, I realized technology and music didn’t have to be separate paths. I could build a life that blended both.
That mindset shaped how I began working professionally. I took on whatever work I could, often charging very little, because I believed that if you have a skill, you should use it to help people, especially the little guy. I wasn’t motivated by money as much as I was motivated by obsession and love for the craft. I wanted to build things that mattered to real people.
Everything shifted when I realized you could build entire systems using text, symbols, and logic. Once that clicked, I couldn’t stop. Today, through ByteNest Applications, I build websites and digital systems focused on simplicity, functionality, and genuine care for the people they’re built for. My goal has always been the same: to bring high quality technology to local communities in a way that feels human and accessible.
Music and design continue to drive how I think and create. If there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s to keep things simple, make them work, and actually care about what you’re building. Know your worth, value your time, lean on your support system, and remember that while sleep is important, caffeine definitely helps too.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were long stretches where I was running on very little sleep, staying up until four in the morning just to turn around and be at work by six, then doing it all over again. Balancing full days of work with late nights building, learning, and creating was exhausting, but it was necessary to keep moving forward.
I also took significant financial hits early on in order to build a real portfolio. I undercharged, sometimes dramatically, because I knew experience and proof mattered more than money at that stage. While that helped me grow, it also forced me to confront the reality of what projects actually cost in time, energy, and responsibility.
Working with clients brought its own challenges as well. I had to learn how to handle difficult conversations, manage expectations, and, most importantly, understand the value of my time. That process taught me how to price work properly, set boundaries, and operate sustainably instead of burning myself out.
One of the hardest lessons has been learning balance. When you care deeply about your work, it’s easy to let everything else slide. I had to consciously work on protecting my health, fitness, relationships, and family time, because success in one area doesn’t mean much if you’re falling apart everywhere else.
Those challenges shaped how I work today. They taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of building something that is sustainable, not just impressive on the surface. And I am still learning, refining, and growing every day.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At this point, I would say I am most specialized in music and drumming. I have played shows for weeks on end, year after year, with very little downtime, all with the goal of building a real reputation and continuously honing my abilities. That level of repetition and consistency has shaped me as a musician and taught me how to perform at a high level even when things are demanding or unpredictable.
Music continues to be a huge passion for me. I love that I get to step into roles that reflect different sides of my childhood inspiration, whether that means playing with high energy and intensity inspired by artists like Tre Cool, or taking a more laid back approach and holding a solid pocket for Danielle’s band. Performing live, night after night, has given me a deep understanding of timing, endurance, and commitment to the craft.
That same go for it musician mindset carries directly into my work with technology and websites. I am comfortable taking on projects of any size because I approach them the same way I approach music. You commit fully, figure it out as you go, and make sure it works. Whether I am building a website, a backend system, or helping shape a creative project, that willingness to jump in and solve problems head on is what sets my work apart.
What I am most proud of is how naturally music and technology have merged in my life. The discipline, creativity, and confidence I developed as a drummer directly inform how I build and design today. It all works together, and that balance is what allows me to take on challenges others might hesitate to start.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Family, above all else. Family is the most important thing to me. They keep you honest, grounded, and focused on what actually matters. They are the people who remind you who you are when things are going well, and who you can lean on when things do not go as planned.
No matter how busy life gets or how ambitious the goals become, family is the foundation. Everything I build, create, and pursue is grounded in that priority.
