Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Chambers.
Hi Ebony, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I embarked on my reading journey in late October 2022, inspired by the accounts I saw on my social media timeline of fellow readers and the emotions they experienced while reading a particular book. I yearned to share that same feeling online, so on December 15, 2022, I created @ebonyessencebookshelf on Instagram.
Connecting with so many bookish beauties online, I decided to attend book events in 2024. My first event was Indie Love in Atlanta, Georgia, where I had the opportunity to meet some inspiring authors and book influencers. From there, I attended more events, read more books, and even bought book shelves for my collection. All of this gave me a sense of belonging and community.
In 2025, I attended the Black Romance Book Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, and met even more of my peers. This experience led me to create Ebony’s Bookshelf Chat, a segment on my YouTube channel titled Ebony Essence. This platform serves as a space for me to engage in conversations with content creators and influencers of the black book community, expressing my appreciation for their work. Additionally, I connect with authors who evoke a range of emotions within me.
We work hard while having fun to craft our content, support each other, build lasting relationships, and most importantly, uplift black authors from traditional publishing to indie. The black book community holds a special place in my heart, and I cherish the experiences I’ve had within it.
Bonus: one of my favorite authors, Dria Andersen, wrote a story inspired by me titled “A Holiday Stowaway.” I highly recommend checking it out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since joining the book community it has honestly been awesome. I wouldn’t change a thing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my personal world I am a truck driver. I’ve been traveling up and down the highways coast to coast for 9 years. Until recently I’ve become a yard jockey moving trailers on a warehouse yard.
Most proud of me and my relationship with God. I’ve always went after anything I put my mind to. Over time talking to God more and finding my path and purpose has made me full.
Never really seen myself as a people person until I got older but when I look back over my life people have always been my thing. Making sure to greet with a smile and have the warmest energy when anyone comes my way so they feel comfortable.
How do you think about happiness?
God. Family. Friends. A sense of community. Reading. Me time. Traveling and most certainly food.
These people and things are what make me feel free, loved and cherished.
