Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Ann Skaggs.
Hi D’Ann, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My brother & I owned a construction for 23 years. In 2006, I had some problems with my brother, and my husband. I got on drugs-Crack. I spent about 6 months doing crack in secret. Then I got arrested. My Husband found out, he divorced me, took everything from me and my brother had everything taken out of my name. I had no money and no home, no job.
In 2011 I was able to get a job at a temporary housing company in Roswell, GA–I had no idea how the business operated, and I made a lot of mistakes. I had to learn from those mistakes, and it took me over a year.
Once I learned how to do the job I was able to get on at another company based out of Arizona. In 2018 I was hired by A Temporary Place. They do the same thing I started doing in 2011.
We deliver temporary housing to disaster victims nationwide. We work directly with the insurance companies at no cost to the families.
I am living proof that anyone can do better. I had no college education, just work experience. I was not familiar with the job I had in 2011, but I kept at it. I cried every day on my way home from work. I thought I would never learn the business, but I kept on with it. I never gave up.
Today I have a job I love. I work from home with disaster victims everywhere. I have a wonderful family owned company I work for, David & Stephanie Dyer. They are the most amazing people I have ever met.
I have a sense of accomplishment. Never give up, no matter how hard the road is, keep pushing. Dont let obstacles bring you down.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Its been a long struggle. The first company I worked for was horrible bosses,, and they did not like me. Still I went to work every day.
The second company had great owners, but they had some trouble and the company split up.
A Temporary Place, the owner was great. He died in 2021 with covid. His Wife took over and she knew nothing about the business. It was very hard working for her. I stayed with it.
In september 0f 2023, she sold the company to David & Stephanie, and I feel so blessed. I have never been happier
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We work with insurance companies to provide temporary housing to disaster victims nationwide. We bring an RV to your property for you to live in while your house is being repaired or rebuilt.
The families we work with some have lost everything they have, some even lost love ones in a fire. It is a comfort to the family when the trailer rolls in and they see they can finally have a home to live in, on their property. They can take care of their animals, and keep up with construction
