Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Mathis.
Hi Molly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
About 15 years ago, I was planning a trip for a group of friends—something off the beaten path, filled with great food, local flavor, and a few spontaneous surprises. When I couldn’t find anything that quite captured what I had in mind, I decided to create it myself. That one trip ended up sparking what would eventually become MOJO Adventures.
Today, MOJO designs highly customized adventure programs that connect people to experiences, places, and local insiders you wouldn’t easily find on your own or even know exist. Whether it’s a family vacation, a friend’s getaway, couples retreat or a team reset — it’s about opening doors to the kinds of moments that can’t be manufactured and shared laughs that end up becoming the best stories later.
At its heart, MOJO exists to make adventure effortless. We handle the details so our clients can simply show up as participants, not planners and lose themselves in the adventure. Because when the logistics fade into the background, that’s when the real magic of travel has room to unfold.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges has been figuring out how to grow without losing that personal touch our clients have come to love. It’s easy, as a business expands, to slip into standardization—but that’s exactly what I set out to avoid. We’ve had to be very intentional about staying hands-on and surrounding ourselves with a trusted team who share our values. That way, even when we’re planning adventures halfway around the world, each client still feels like they’re our only one.
Another ongoing challenge is staying current and deeply connected to the places we recommend. People often ask, “Have you been there?” and I love being able to say yes. That commitment means I spend a good portion of the year out in the field—scouting destinations, walking properties, meeting local guides, and of course sampling the food. It might sound like the dream job (and it often is), but it takes a lot of time and energy. Still, for us, it’s non‑negotiable. Authenticity can’t be researched from a distance—I just wish there were a few more weeks in the year to fit it all in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Luxury travel is changing quickly, and it’s an exciting time to be a part of it. Today’s travelers are craving deeper, more authentic experiences —choosing to slow down, stay longer, and engage more meaningfully. It’s less about checking boxes and more about collecting moments that become the stories you’ll tell for years to come.
Africa, for instance, continues to captivate. Whether it’s a classic safari or a journey that immerses travelers in local culture, our on‑the‑ground partners are masters at creating experiences that feel real, thoughtful, and deeply personal.
We’re also seeing a surge in interest for what I like to call “edge‑of‑the‑map” adventures—places that still feel wild and untouched. From New Zealand’s epic landscapes and adrenaline‑fueled pursuits to expedition voyages reaching Antarctica and other remote corners of the world, travelers are hungry for the extraordinary.
And then there’s family travel, which has been quietly reinventing itself. Today’s grandparents are as curious and adventurous as their grandkids, and multigenerational trips often revolve around shared experiences—private villas, hands‑on cultural moments, and time spent simply being together. It’s a beautiful evolution to witness: adventure as a way to connect, across generations and across the globe.
