Exploring Life & Business with Renata Broomfield of Bad Gyal Vegan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Broomfield.

Hi Renata, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been an entrepreneur, and I consistently prayed about which passion I wanted to focus on. That passion became my way of life and my motivation. I started out on the streets of New York and in shelters before my dream led to my first business. Years later, I pivoted from New York to Atlanta during the pandemic to start fresh. When I arrived, I focused heavily on networking and branding myself through pop-ups and local opportunities. Those efforts eventually led to opening my locations here in Atlanta.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. There were challenges every step of the way. Bootstrapping a business on my own has been the most challenging, yet rewarding, experience I’ve ever had. From building a restaurant from the ground up to dealing with faulty contractors and people undermining my business, there were many obstacles that tried to block my progress. Despite it all, I persevered and remained consistent with my goals and vision.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bad Gyal Vegan. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Bad Gyal Vegan was founded in 2014 in New York City and relocated to Atlanta in 2020. Bad Gyal Vegan is a Jamaican-American fusion, full vegan restaurant best known for creating the original vegan oxtail, coined as “voxtail.” This groundbreaking dish has become a signature of the brand and a major reason Bad Gyal Vegan is widely recognized.

What sets Bad Gyal Vegan apart is its ability to deliver bold, authentic Caribbean flavors and satisfying textures that appeal to both vegans and non-vegans alike. The voxtail is a point of pride for the brand—an original concept developed in-house and exclusive to Bad Gyal Vegan, not replicated the same way anywhere else in the world.

Beyond its restaurant experience, Bad Gyal Vegan offers nationwide shipping through its website, allowing customers across the U.S. to enjoy its signature dishes. The brand also features weekday lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., its popular “Vegan Meatloaf Monday” from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Marietta location, and a customer rewards program designed to give back to loyal guests.

At its core, Bad Gyal Vegan represents innovation, culture, and excellence in plant-based dining—redefining what vegan food can be while honoring Caribbean roots.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The 3 acronym’s that represent B.A.D. Gyal Vegan. BLESSED. AMBITIOUS. DETERMINED. All characteristics that are important to my success and philosophies that I live by.
