Today we’d like to introduce you to BreOnna Cole.
Hi BreOnna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I discovered my love for hair in high school, learning how to braid at just 13 years old from my aunt Trina. After graduating, I received a full scholarship to The Hair School in Decatur, Georgia, and became the only person from my graduating class to become licensed in the state. At the time, I didn’t fully realize that this path was part of God’s bigger plan for me.
It wasn’t until I had my daughter, Zariah, that everything became clear. While working full-time in retail managetment and also as a master cosmetologist, I began to miss out on many of her first moments. As a single mother, I wanted to be more than just a provider—I wanted to be present. I valued creating memories and sharing meaningful moments with my daughter more than anything else.
After earning my degree in business management, I took a leap of faith and decided to step into my purpose fully by taking my business full-time. That decision allowed me to align my passion, my purpose, and my priorities—building a career I love while being the mother my daughter deserves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth is not a word I would associate with my journey—lol. I’ve faced many roadblocks along the way, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. There were moments when I had to stop, completely revamp the plan, and even times when I tried to run from this path because it became hard and I didn’t feel worthy of the success I desired.
I’ve questioned my value more times than I can count. I’ve battled depression, imposter syndrome, and the very real challenges of motherhood, all while trying to build something meaningful. Each pause and setback shaped my resilience and helped clarify my purpose.
Even now, nearly 20 years in, I still have moments. This interview was hard for me because it required me to reflect and fully own my journey. But I’ve learned that growth doesn’t mean the doubts disappear—it means you keep showing up anyway.
We’ve been impressed with Truly Be U, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a master cosmetologist and educator specializing in braids and natural-looking hair extensions, with a focus on healthy, realistic results. My work is centered on helping people feel confident, beautiful, and truly seen.
What sets me apart is the safe, exclusive space I intentionally create for my clients. My chair is a place of comfort and trust, where people can relax and be themselves. I’m most proud of the genuine, long-term relationships that have grown organically through my work.
My brand is built on purpose and care. I approach every service with intention, integrity, and respect, and my goal is always to provide an experience that leaves a lasting impact beyond the appointment.
What does success mean to you?
It’s funny, I was just talking about this question with a client recently. To me, success is waking up excited about the day and genuinely loving what you do. Of course, stability matters, but real success goes deeper than that.
If your life is filled with love and grounded in peace, you’ve officially made it. Success doesn’t have one look, it might mean moving somewhere new every year, or being home every day with the people you love. For me, it’s about alignment, fulfillment, and creating a life that feels good, not just one that looks good.
