Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Hill.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing my friend’s hair and makeup for prom. When I was in college, I started taking “clients” which were just girls on my hall. After grad school I started moving more into the wedding scene. It started with a college friend who was getting married in 2021 and she told me that our freshman year, I was playing with her hair while we were watching a romcom and she thought to herself right then “this girl is going to do my wedding hair one day.” And I did! I have worked many jobs since starting college, but doing hair and makeup has always been a fun passion project for me. In 2025, I had several bridal clients and I’ve started branching out into bridal parties and regular event prep. Now I work as an event coordinator for the historical Oakland foundation, but I still reserve specific days for brides.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m lucky that this started out as a side hustle and not a full time job. As my business has grown, I’ve been able to devote more time to it. I’ve been fortunate to have amazing friends who utilized my services and promoted it to their other friends.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a hair and makeup stylist for formal events. I specialize in bridal and prom stylings. I’m known for my natural yet elevated makeup and soft, romantic updos. I have spent years working on finalizing a makeup base routine that leaves your skin looking airbrushed but light weight. I’m the most proud of my ability to leave clients feeling like themselves but with a little extra formal “oomph.”
Any big plans?
I am looking forward to expanding my business more in 2026. I’m planning on devoting more time into my social media accounts and expanding my style range. I want to keep practicing different techniques and constantly improve my skills.
