Community Highlights: Meet Kimberlyn Mccoy of Kember collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberlyn Mccoy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Savannah, my journey has always been rooted in creativity and hustle. Getting my hair license at just 16 while in high school and then In 2021, I moved back to Atlanta to step fully into my purpose. I originally began my career as a barber, mastering precision and discipline, before landing an opportunity in the film industry. While that chapter taught me invaluable lessons, my heart never left the hair industry.

In September 2022, I partnered with BraidBossRay, and together we began braiding side by side. What started as a collaboration quickly turned into a powerhouse duo. By March 2025, we had established ourselves as Atlanta’s top two-braider team, known for speed, quality, and consistency.

That same year, I launched my own bundle business, expanding my brand beyond the chair. In July 2025, we reached another major milestoneopening our storefront and securing our very own suite.

Today, January 12, 2026, I’m proud to be a full-time content creator, bundle business owner, and professional braider. I’m excited to continue building my brand, inspiring others, and embracing the opportunities that lie ahead.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Nothing about this journey has been easy, but I’ve been blessed to have the support of my mom and family, and that support has kept me grounded through every challenge.

When I first moved back to Atlanta, I worked hard to pay off my first car—a 2013 Hyundai Sonata—for $10,000, only to have it stolen within my first two years here. That experience was devastating and taught me resilience early on. I also launched my first clothing line, GoatMade, which ultimately failed. Instead of viewing it as a loss, I chose to see it as a lesson—one that helped shape how I approach business today.

One of the hardest moments of my journey was losing my granddad in 2022. That loss hit deeply, but it also gave me the momentum and motivation to keep pushing forward and honor him through my work. Every obstacle has strengthened my faith, sharpened my focus, and reinforced why I refuse to give up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as legacy—what’s left behind long after I’m gone. Success to me isn’t just about being rich; it’s about building real wealth through businesses that create stability, opportunity, and impact. It’s about setting my family up not just for today, but for generations to comeproviding education, ownership, and a foundation my children and their children’s children can continue to build on. That kind of longevity is true success to me.Success is also about purpose. Making sure my work helps women feel confident, beautiful, and more in love with themselves is deeply important to me. Giving back through my craft and using hair as a tool to empower women is one of my greatest passions, and that fulfillment is just as meaningful as any financial milestone.
