Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Williams.
Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I graduated optometry school in 2012 and I completed a residency program in Puerto Rico in 2013. Following my training I begin working for a private practice that was soon bought out by a corporate optometry entity. I was not pleased with the corporate style in treating patients or taking care of staff. It lead me to open my private practice in 2019. We are located in one of the most historic, prestigious neighborhoods in all of Atlanta. I attribute our practice’s success to the support that we receive from this amazing community. We opened our doors just four months before COVID 19 closed the world and we survived it because of our community. I continue to grow along with my practice due to the push that comes from my wife and children, staff, and all of the patients that remind me directly or indirectly how to improve. Our eye exams aren’t just for glasses, contacts and eye health. My patients are very honest with me about where we can improve and about what we are doing great. That has become a huge part of my story.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road in the least bit. In school, I learned how to be an eye doctor. I didn’t learn how to be a manager, an optician, a business person, a marketing person, etc. However, when you start a business from scratch, you have to be all of those; all at the same time. It comes with so many challenges. Doing all of those things to grow your practice, you then have to be comfortable with the fact that you are the last person to be paid. You have to take care of your team as well as the bills. So there are very tough times in private practice. However, I wouldn’t change it for the world!
As you know, we’re big fans of VEA Eye Health Professionals. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
In my practice we conduct full scope optometry in that our priority is to make sure that medically, a patient’s eyes are healthy. We also conduct exams for glasses, contacts and various other medical devices. Our practice fits special hard contact lenses for medical conditions like keratoconus and we also conduct pediatric eye exams starting at age one. We make sure that we can treat as many in our community as possible.
From a brand perspective, we have built such a welcoming culture in our office. Patients rave about our staff. Our team tends to have fun throughout each day, so it appears they enjoy working for us as well.
At VEA, we diagnose and treat an extensive list of medical eye conditions, especially those conditions that evolve from systemic conditions like Sickle Cell Anemia, Diabetes, Lupus, Sarcoidosis, Hypertension, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We just appreciate all of the support we get from our community and we absolutely love our patients! They really push us to be better everyday!
