Hidden Gems: Meet Moustafa Elmaghrabi of Nightlifepizzakennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moustafa Elmaghrabi.

Hi Moustafa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Moustafa Elmaghrabi, and I am an Egyptian PhD pharmacist with a lifelong passion for food and cooking. My journey in the culinary world began during my pharmacy college days, when I enjoyed preparing meals for my friends and professors during exam time.Eager to learn more about the art of cooking, I traveled to New York, where a friend who owned a restaurant gave me the opportunity to work alongside his chefs. I trained under three talented chefs as a sous chef, which helped me deepen my knowledge and refine my skills in the kitchen.Later, I moved to Atlanta to explore the local food scene and worked in various restaurants to understand the market and community here in Georgia. In 2019, I proudly opened my own restaurant. Since then, my dedicated team and I have worked hard to serve our community with high-quality, freshly prepared food made from scratch.Even through challenging times, our passion and our customers’ love and support have kept us going. I consider my customers part of my extended family, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my story and serve the community that has supported me from the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, like many small businesses, we faced serious financial challenges. When the government introduced support programs for small businesses, I applied for an SBA loan, but unfortunately, my application was denied. They explained that my restaurant had opened just a few months after the pandemic began, making it ineligible for assistance. Without that support, it became incredibly difficult to stay open or promote the restaurant.I even tried to apply for unemployment benefits but did not qualify, which made the situation even more challenging. During that time, my only goal was to keep the business alive and let more people know about our food and our story. My family stood by my side and helped me financially so I could start advertising and attracting new customers.Just when things were starting to improve, we faced new hardships—false reviews, harassing phone calls, fake online orders, and even competitors trying to damage our reputation. It was a tough period that tested our strength and patience. Then, a large catering order came in, and for the first time in months, I felt a light shining at the end of the tunnel. But soon after, we were hit again—some of those orders were made with stolen credit cards, leading to more losses in supplies, labor, and expenses.Despite everything, we kept pushing forward. Every setback reminded me why I started: to serve good food with honesty, passion, and care, and to keep giving back to the community that continues to believe in us.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Kennesaw offers a mix of big advantages and a few challenges, especially for families, students, and small business owners like you. Overall, it is seen as a safe, growing, and family-friendly suburb with some trade-offs in traffic, costs, and walkability. Things people like about KennesawGood schools and safety: Kennesaw is known for highly rated public schools and relatively low crime compared to many metro-Atlanta suburbs, which makes it attractive for families. Parks and outdoor life: Places like Swift-Cantrell Park and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park give residents easy access to trails, green space, and weekend activities without leaving town. Community vibe: Events such as local festivals and downtown gatherings help create a small-town feel where people can connect with neighbors and support local businesses. Things people dislike about KennesawTraffic and car dependence: Many residents mention congestion on I‑75 and main corridors like Barrett Parkway, and the city is not very walkable, so most errands require driving.
