Today we’d like to introduce you to Jumarie Flores.
Hi Jumarie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in leadership and service began at an early age in Puerto Rico. As a child, I was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, an experience that instilled in me strong values of service, social responsibility, and community commitment. In high school, I served as editor of the school newspaper, which sparked my passion for communication, storytelling, and the power of the written word.
I completed my university studies at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, where I was awarded the Pórtico Medal for Leadership and Civic Engagement, an honor given to students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, civic responsibility, and community involvement. During my college years, I also volunteered with several organizations in Puerto Rico, including SER de Puerto Rico and the American Cancer Society, further strengthening my dedication to service and social impact.
In my final year of college, I was selected to participate in the Jorge Alberto Ramos Comas Legislative Internship, an experience that marked the formal beginning of my professional career. Upon completing the internship, I remained at the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, where I worked as a legislative assistant in the office of Representative José “Conny” Varela. This role provided me with a deep understanding of the legislative process, public service, and the importance of clear, ethical, and strategic communication in serving the public.
I later shifted my professional focus to public relations and professional sports. I managed public relations for the Liga Mayor de Puerto Rico. This experience led me to become co-owner (co-apoderada) of a professional soccer team, making history as the first woman to serve as an owner of a professional team in Puerto Rico.
As part of my professional growth, in 2010, I led public relations efforts for Digicel in partnership with CONCACAF, expanding my experience in international brand management, high-profile sporting events, and corporate communications within highly competitive environments.
I later shifted my professional focus to public relations, working across multiple industries in Puerto Rico. My experience included managing public relations for beauty pageants, restaurants, wine distributors, and providing ghostwriting services for executives and public figures. These roles strengthened my ability to adapt messaging across diverse audiences and industries while maintaining brand integrity and narrative consistency.
In 2017, I relocated to Atlanta shortly after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. I left the island one week after the hurricane, departing aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship during one of the most challenging periods of my life, both personally and professionally. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter defined by resilience, adaptability, and a renewed commitment to rebuilding and serving my community from a new place.
In 2020, I founded Perfect Goal Marketing, and in January 2021, I transitioned to leading the firm full-time after my husband was diagnosed with heart failure and was no longer able to work. This personal turning point reshaped my professional purpose and strengthened my resolve to build a values-driven company focused on impact, sustainability, and results—while supporting my family.
Since 2023, I have worked as a contractor with the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GHCC), leading public relations and media relations initiatives. I have also served as Project Manager for major international business missions, including trips to El Salvador and Colombia, and I continue in that role for the Chamber’s upcoming international mission.
My commitment to community leadership continues to grow. In 2024, I participated in the United Way Atlanta Summer VIP Program, and in 2025, I joined the boards of MorningStar Urban Development and Semillas Seed Foundation, where I actively support initiatives focused on community development and social impact.
Today, my work centers on designing and executing strategic communications and public relations efforts that connect organizations, leaders, and communities. My career has been shaped by resilience, leadership, and the belief that well-told stories have the power to open doors, transform realities, and create lasting opportunities.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurial and leadership journeys, mine has been shaped by moments of uncertainty, resilience, and reinvention. One of the most challenging periods came in 2017, when I left Puerto Rico immediately after Hurricane Maria devastated the island and had to rebuild my life and career in Atlanta from the ground up.
Another defining challenge occurred in 2021, when my husband was diagnosed with heart failure and was no longer able to work. At that moment, I made the decision to transition my company, Perfect Goal Marketing, into a full-time operation to support my family. Balancing personal responsibility, financial pressure, and the demands of entrepreneurship required focus, discipline, and faith.
Professionally, breaking barriers as a woman in male-dominated spaces—particularly in professional sports—also came with resistance and skepticism. Becoming the first woman co-owner of a professional soccer team in Puerto Rico meant proving my leadership, credibility, and voice repeatedly.
Despite these challenges, each obstacle strengthened my resolve, sharpened my leadership, and clarified my purpose. The struggles were not setbacks—they became the foundation that shaped how I lead, how I serve, and how I help others tell their stories with authenticity and impact.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Perfect Goal Marketing is a strategic public relations and communications firm founded with a clear purpose: to help organizations, leaders, and brands tell their stories with intention, credibility, and measurable impact. We specialize in developing communication strategies that go beyond visibility to build reputation, trust, and long-term relationships.
Our work includes public relations, media relations, institutional storytelling, leadership positioning, ghostwriting, strategic communications planning, and special project management. We have worked with nonprofit organizations, chambers of commerce, business leaders, community initiatives, and purpose-driven brands seeking to grow both locally and internationally.
What sets us apart is our deeply strategic and human-centered approach. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all communications. Every client receives a customized strategy aligned with their mission, values, and real business goals. We understand how government, media, community, and the private sector intersect—and we know how to navigate and connect those spaces with clarity and integrity.
I am especially proud that Perfect Goal Marketing was built through resilience and responsibility. The firm became my full-time focus during a personally challenging moment, and since then it has grown into a platform for leadership, service, and impact. Our brand reflects discipline, integrity, and a genuine commitment to our clients’ success.
I want readers to know that at Perfect Goal Marketing, we do more than offer services—we build partnerships. We work alongside our clients as strategic allies, helping them amplify their message, strengthen their leadership voice, and position themselves with clarity and purpose in an increasingly competitive landscape. Our goal is simple but powerful: to ensure every story we tell is meaningful, consistent, and impactful.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about this city is its diversity and spirit of opportunity. Atlanta brings together cultures, ideas, and communities, and it is a place where leadership, collaboration, and innovation are encouraged. I especially value its strong business and community ecosystem, as well as the openness to building meaningful relationships and partnerships.
What I like least is the fast pace that has come with the city’s growth, particularly traffic and limited mobility in certain areas, which can impact work–life balance. That said, I see these challenges as opportunities for innovation, improved planning, and continued efforts to enhance the quality of life for everyone who calls Atlanta home.
