Community Highlights: Meet Mala Kaul of IntegRAHealth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mala Kaul.

Hi Mala, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been practicing rheumatology for 20 years, and former medical director of rheumatology at Piedmont and decided to open the first direct care Rheumatology practice to help address a gap I saw in the current healthcare system for patients suffering with rheumatic and autoimmune diseases. The practice is free from the restrictions of insurance and patients are able to get direct access, longer more comprehensive doctors visits.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggle was going from the mindset of a physician entrepreneur. The medicine part of the practice has been enjoyable and comes naturally, but the running of the business has been a steep learning curve. With the premise of building the practice around makign it easy amd supportive for patients suffering from autoimmune disease , while leveraging technology and a simplified payment structure to keep overhead low has led to the model’s success so far.
