Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthlene Legair-Lawrence.
Hi Arthlene, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began with purpose, resilience, and creativity. I started by simply using my hands and my heart—creating, serving, and helping others with what I had. In 2008, I made a dress for my daughter that unexpectedly launched my path into fashion design. What began as a single act of love opened doors to international fashion shows, media features, and a platform to empower women and youth through creativity, confidence, and skill-building.
Over the years, my work expanded beyond fashion into education, media, and nonprofit service. I founded organizations and initiatives focused on vocational training, empowerment, and community support, particularly for women, youth, and underserved communities. Despite challenges, setbacks, and seasons of starting over, I remained committed to purpose over popularity. Today, I stand as a designer, educator, author, and advocate—using my story and skills to help others discover their worth, walk in confidence, and build sustainable futures.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. My journey has been filled with challenges, detours, and seasons of rebuilding. I’ve faced financial hardships, personal trauma, rejection, and the pressure of starting over more than once. There were times when I was doing meaningful work but not seeing the financial stability or recognition that often comes with it.
I also struggled with balancing purpose and survival—working jobs that didn’t reflect the fullness of my experience while still carrying a vision much bigger than my circumstances. Navigating entrepreneurship, nonprofit work, and creative industries without consistent resources or support required resilience, faith, and discipline. Every setback forced me to grow, refine my vision, and strengthen my resolve. Those struggles shaped me, grounded me, and ultimately prepared me to lead, teach, and serve from a place of authenticity and compassion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work began in fashion, where I used design as a way to help women feel confident, seen, and beautiful. Fashion was never just about clothing for me—it was about identity, self-expression, and helping women show up boldly in the world. As I worked closely with women, I realized that many of them didn’t just need to look confident; they needed support in building confidence from the inside out.
That realization led me into coaching and education. Today, my work focuses more on empowerment through skill-building and practical education. I teach women hands-on trades and creative skills such as candle-making, soap-making, and other DIY product creation, not just as hobbies but as tools for self-sufficiency and income generation. These programs are designed to help women rebuild confidence, create opportunities for themselves, and see their abilities as valuable.
What sets my work apart is that I combine creativity with real-world application. I don’t just teach theory—I teach skills women can use immediately to support themselves, start small businesses, and regain a sense of control over their lives. I’m most proud of creating pathways where women move from feeling stuck or uncertain to becoming confident, capable, and empowered through creativity, education, and purpose-driven work.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
At this stage of my journey, I’m very clear about how I choose to work and collaborate. I partner with both nonprofit and for-profit organizations through paid speaking engagements, workshops, classes, and training programs centered on empowerment, creativity, confidence, and vocational skill-building.
I’m actively seeking opportunities to teach, lead, and speak—whether that’s facilitating hands-on classes, delivering keynote talks, leading professional development sessions, or supporting organizations through structured educational programs. I work with partners who recognize the value of experience, impact, and results, and who are committed to investing in high-quality, purpose-driven work.
After years of building, serving, and contributing across multiple sectors, I am now focused on sustainable, compensated partnerships that allow me to continue empowering others while honoring my expertise, time, and professional worth.
