Inspiring Conversations with Jamie Perry of Moon Tide Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Perry.

Hi Jamie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey to become a psychotherapist has been relatively straight forward. I was always attracted to the idea of practicing psychotherapy as it seemed like a chance to live a meaningful life and to be of assistance to anyone at any stage in their journey. In particular, private practice work stood out to me most. I wanted a career that would leave room for me to create a lifestyle where I can practice what I promote on a daily basis. However, I knew it would take time before I could get to the place I am now and the places I still hope to take my practice.
I finished my master’s program in May 2020 right as Covid-19 kicked off. I jumped straight into work as a school-based therapist in an elementary school in Springdale, Arkansas the following semester, thankful to have a job in a time when so many things were uncertain. I was a part of a small team of therapists, nurses, and psychologists who served the school as well as the surrounding community. It was an eye opening beginning, as I started working out of am empty classroom, and conducting both individual and family therapy. Both things I never considered would be a part of my journey.
However, I kept my heart open and I learned so much from the community. After completing a year at the school, I married my best friend and with plans to start a family we decided to move to my hometown of Georgia to be near support for the next stage of our life. Upon arrival in 2021, I connected with a former classmate from the University of Arkansas and quickly found myself working alongside her at a group private practice in Buckhead. There I learned the ropes of private practice and sharpened my clinical skills. I also found my love of somatic psychotherapy while working there and began the three year process of becoming a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).
I officially transitioned to my solo practice in January of 2024 after becoming fully licensed as an LPC (licensed professional counselor) in 2023. I have been honored to continue hearing the stories and supporting so many in the state of GA since 2021.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path has been relatively smooth as I believe my career path is aligned with my purpose. My belief is passion + action = purpose.
However, life has happened along the way. I’ve navigated complications with my fertility and the loss of my only sibling in June 2022.
Grief and fertility complications have informed my practice for the better since.

We’ve been impressed with Moon Tide Counseling , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Moon Tide Counseling is a psychotherapy practice based in Atlanta. I serve adults 18+ and older in person as well as virtually. I specialize in somatic psychotherapy which is body-centered. I specialize in treating trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and helping people create more value-aligned lives.
The name of my practice derives from the relationship between the moon and ocean tides. The moon determines the course of the tides much like certain experiences change how we respond to our outside world.
At my practice, you will learn coping skills and how to settle your nervous system. However, my greatest hope for all my clients is that their approach to life itself transforms to one of deeper compassion for their self and others, greater capacity for the bitter-sweet of life, and freer flowing loving-kindness.
I’d like people to know that I accept some insurance plans and offer sliding scale pricing when available.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe that more AI will begin to support the administrative side of clinical counseling. My hope is that insurance begins to more fairly compensate professionals for their work and in response the acceptance of insurance becomes more standard.
