Inspiring Conversations with Rena Brown of RNB’s Studio LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rena Brown.

Hi Rena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in the Midwest, grew up on the west coast then moved down south. When I was in the 11th grade I took a fitness training class that gave me the passion to be a massage therapist. I graduated in 2002 from Manual High School in Denver Colorado, then moved to Atlanta Georgia where I attended Atlanta Metropolitan College. I graduated as Miss AMC in 2008 with an Associates of Science degree in General Studies. Soon after graduation, I started my RNB’s Studio massage career providing variety of massage services to friends and family. Seeing their satisfaction and body rejuvenation after the massages I knew without a doubt that this was the gift I was blessed with in helping others to being their best self.  Therefore, I researched for the best school that would offer me the optimal training to equip me in meeting my goals in providing elite services.  In January, 2012 I enrolled in massage therapy school at ISSNMT and was licensed by July of 2013.

I began my professional career at Elements Massage in Buckhead for 14 months and only left due to a new owner, who had different customer service criteria than I envision for my clients. One of my clients at Elements Massage was so impressed with my services and was venturing into opening a spa of her own asked me if I would be interested in becoming her full-time lead therapist.  It was a great opportunity that offered me the prospect to enlarge my portfolio of expertise and services to my clients.  I accepted the offer and began my employment at Warrior Body Spa in Tucker.  For 5 years, I was instrumental in helping to grow this business to 2 locations and to be a recipient of multiple industry awards whilst servicing 75% of the customers working 5 days a week.  During my off days, I operated my own mobile business and in July 2019 decided it was time to branch out and expand my own business full time.

I am committed to learning and becoming certified in new modalities of massage therapy in order to fulfill my goal of providing a catalog of elite services to my clients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started doing my business full time in July of 2019 and then the pandemic hit and I was not able to work. After it was over and I was able to work again it was hard to get clients because a lot of people were afraid to let strangers in their homes for massage. I worked with an app called Soothe and was able to build my clients from there, along with the clients that came with me from the spa.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have a mobile massage business and I bring relaxing sessions to my clients in the privacy of their own homes. I specialize in hot stones, deep tissue, prenatal, acupressure, TMJ therapy, ear candling and percussion therapy. I will be in classes this year to get certified in lymphatic drainage. I am known for bring the body back to life after everyday life breaks it down. I make sure all my clients feel like a new person when they get off my table. I feel what sets me apart from others is the education that I give my clients during our sessions to help them take care of there bodies until they see me again. I want people to know that I’m not like other spas that try to sale you stuff and just rub you down with lotion. I truly want my clients to live a healthy and pain free life. I also offer other services like ionic detox foot baths, Smart goggles sessions and smart hand massages.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a big sister to my litter brother in a single parent home. I had to keep things together until my mom came home and that made me very responsible at a very young age. I was and still a very organized person and always trying to help in anyway I can. My most favorite interest is swimming. I was the only black girl on the swim team my whole 4 years of high school in Denver Colorado.
