Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Jones.
Hi Maggie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from the Atlanta School of Massage in 2005, shortly after high school, and quickly realized I had a deep passion for helping others—not only through hands-on care, but by understanding how injury occurs in the body and how true healing can be facilitated. Restoring the body to optimal function through massage therapy simply made sense to me, and that belief has guided my work ever since.
As I progressed in my career, I began to recognize that the business model I was working within did not fully honor the level of care I was providing to my clients. Like many therapists, I found myself becoming injured and burned out. That experience ultimately pushed me to seek a more sustainable, client-centered approach to massage and wellness.
In 2016, I was given the opportunity to become the Director of the Atlanta School of Massage. In that role, my perspective on massage therapy expanded significantly. I learned that massage is so much more than pain management or deep tissue work—there are countless modalities and approaches that can support both physical and mental health. Working alongside an exceptional team of instructors and highly motivated students, I explored the many dimensions of massage therapy and its ability to support specific conditions and illnesses.
During this time, I also served as the research coordinator for collaborative studies between the Atlanta School of Massage and Emory University’s Department of Psychiatry. These studies focused on massage therapy for generalized anxiety disorder, cancer-related fatigue, and supportive care for breast and prostate cancer patients. This work reinforced my belief in massage therapy as an evidence-based, integrative healthcare modality.
In January 2020, I made the decision to return to private practice. As the world shifted during that time, so did the role of massage therapy. What was once often viewed as a luxury quickly became recognized as a basic human need—supporting nervous system regulation, healing, and meaningful human connection.
Since then, Radiant Physique, Inc. has grown into a comprehensive healing arts studio offering services such as somatic massage, oncology massage, massage therapy for generalized anxiety disorder, manual lymphatic drainage, and many other specialized modalities. Our mission has always been to support the greater Roswell community through thoughtful, individualized, and integrative care.
In 2025, I expanded Radiant Physique’s reach by opening a larger studio and welcoming many of my former massage instructor colleagues and Atlanta School of Massage graduates to join the practice. Together, we’ve created what we lovingly call our “Tribe of Radiance”—a collaborative, highly skilled team dedicated to honoring the body, mind, and spirit through intentional healing work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, my journey working for myself has been relatively smooth, but not without important challenges. Early in my career, I experienced what I often refer to as the “burn and turn” massage business paradigm—an unsustainable model that prioritizes volume over the well-being of therapists. Expecting practitioners to work on clients for long sessions back-to-back, with little recovery time in between, does not serve the long-term health of massage therapists or the integrity of the profession.
One of the biggest struggles was recognizing that while I was deeply passionate about helping others, I was also becoming physically overworked and at risk of burnout. That realization forced me to make a conscious shift. When I began working for myself, I chose to practice what I teach my clients—listening to my body, honoring rest, and prioritizing sustainable care.
By flipping this paradigm, I focused on meeting my own physical well-being first, and later the well-being of my team. This approach challenged the traditional “burn and turn” model, but it ultimately created a healthier, more sustainable practice. By taking care of ourselves as practitioners, we’re able to show up fully present, energized, and grounded for every client we serve. That balance has allowed both our team and our clients to thrive, and it continues to fuel the growth and vitality of Radiant Physique.
We’ve been impressed with Radiant Physique, Inc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Radiant Physique, Inc. is an integrative healing arts studio rooted in the belief that the body, mind, and nervous system must be cared for together—not in isolation. We offer therapeutic, evidence-informed massage and wellness services designed to support people through stress, injury, illness, and life transitions, rather than treating massage as a one-size-fits-all or luxury experience.
What we’re known for is depth of care. Our team specializes in modalities such as somatic massage, oncology massage, manual lymphatic drainage, massage therapy for generalized anxiety disorder, neuromuscular and myofascial work, and trauma-informed bodywork. We take the time to understand each client’s story and design sessions that meet their specific needs, whether they’re navigating chronic stress, recovery from surgery or cancer treatment, nervous system dysregulation, or simply seeking a more intentional approach to wellness.
What truly sets Radiant Physique apart is our foundation in education, research, and sustainability—both for our clients and our practitioners. Our work has been informed by clinical research in collaboration with Emory University’s Department of Psychiatry, and that evidence-based lens carries through everything we do. Equally important, we intentionally reject the “burn and turn” model common in the massage industry. We prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of our therapists, which allows our team to show up grounded, present, and fully available for each client.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture we’ve created. Radiant Physique is built on collaboration, integrity, and genuine care—not competition or overproduction. In 2025, expanding into a larger studio and welcoming former instructors and graduates from the Atlanta School of Massage allowed us to intentionally grow what we call our “Tribe of Radiance”—a highly skilled, values-aligned team committed to ethical, sustainable healing work.
What I want readers to know is that Radiant Physique is more than a wellness studio—it’s a space where people are truly seen, heard, and supported. Our offerings are designed to meet real human needs, honoring both the science of the body and the art of human connection. We believe that when practitioners are cared for, clients receive better care—and that philosophy is at the heart of everything we do.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for anyone just starting out is to build your career with sustainability in mind from the very beginning. Passion alone isn’t enough if your body, nervous system, or values are being depleted in the process. Take the time to learn how to care for yourself as intentionally as you care for your clients—your longevity depends on it.
I also wish I had known earlier that you don’t have to follow the dominant “burn and turn” model to be successful. Working slower, being more intentional, and honoring boundaries does not mean you care less—it actually allows you to care more, and with greater depth. Quality over quantity will always win in the long run.
Another lesson I learned over time is the importance of continuing education and curiosity. Massage therapy is a lifelong practice, not a static skill set. Stay open to learning, explore different modalities, and don’t be afraid to let your work evolve as you do.
Finally, surround yourself with people who respect the work, the science, and the art of what you do. Seek mentors, build community, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Healing work was never meant to be done in isolation, and your growth will be stronger when it’s supported.
If you can build a practice that honors your body, your values, and your curiosity, success will follow—and it will be the kind that lasts.
