Conversations with Zorae Tomlin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zorae Tomlin.

Hi Zorae, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been obsessed with cameras ever since my freshman year of high school, whether it was cinematography or photography, I knew I wanted to be behind the camera. I graduated from Georgia State University with a double major in film/media and journalism in 2021. It took a while for me to land my first entertainment industry job at TNT Sports, but while working there, I wasn’t able to really dive into my creativity. I also felt that I was falling behind my peers and not seeing much growth. After going to therapy, I started my TikTok page to help me have a creative outlet and get out of my comfort zone. I posted my photography and asked models to help me out with shoots, and now it’s slowly starting to turn into an actual business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started taking my photography business seriously in 2024, but I was barely getting any clients. I mainly post my sports photography on Instagram, hoping that someone would reach out. Nothing happened that entire year. In 2025, I realized that I had to be more present on social media to help promote my business and show my skillset. After being consistent on TikTok for a few months, more opportunities started to roll in. However, I was still met with a lot of no’s and unanswered emails. Sometimes I felt as if I wasn’t prepared for certain opportunities, but I handled them head-on and came out on top.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer and content creator. I specialize in portrait, sports , concert, and event photography! I’d say I am very versatile when it comes to my style of photography, and most clients say that my turn around times for photos are quick. On the content creation side, I discuss photography, video games, and other media that I enjoy. I’d say I am most proud of shooting at One Music Fest last year. I’ve always wanted to do concert photography, and that festival, being my first stab at concert photography, would definitely be something I am most proud of. Also, my mini series that I do called “Random Talks” where I talk about anything that interests me, is also something I am proud of. I grew up being very shy (still am), but I wanted to prove to myself that I can be in front of a camera. What sets me apart from the others is that I can adapt to anything very quickly, and I am multi-faceted. Whatever interests me, I want to do it.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Thankfully, no bad luck has impacted my business. But for good luck, what I immediately think of is the algorithm on social media. All it takes is one person to see your work and connect you to the right people. And thankfully, that has happened to me a few times, but it’s also learning to prepare for that good luck to happen at any moment, so you can show why you’re meant to be where you are. I feel as though that is what is happening to me now.
