Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Iris Wright of Author Iris Wright & Publishing; Wright Circle of Care, Wright Way Logistics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Iris Wright.

Hi Dr. Iris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey the way many entrepreneurs do, by working hard, learning on the job, and carrying responsibility early. I spent over a decade in restaurant management, where I developed discipline, leadership skills, and the ability to perform under pressure. That season laid a strong foundation for how I lead today, even before I recognized it as preparation.

At twenty-eight, I transitioned into healthcare and discovered my true calling in service and compassionate care. In 2019, after reading Steve Harvey’s book Jump, everything shifted. That book challenged me to stop playing it safe and trust what I knew God had placed inside of me. Inspired to move without guarantees, I made the decision to quit my job and start my first business. It was a leap of faith, but one that changed the trajectory of my life.

From there, I built and scaled multiple ventures across healthcare, publishing, logistics, and media, often making strategic pivots to meet real needs and adapt to change. One of the most defining moments of my life came when I faced serious injustice, including the possibility of a twenty-year sentence for a crime I did not commit. That experience strengthened my faith, sharpened my purpose, and fueled my commitment to advocacy and justice reform.

Today, I lead as an entrepreneur, author, and advocate, using my platforms to create access, tell the truth, and turn lived experience into impact. My journey has been shaped by resilience, faith, and bold decisions, and I continue building with purpose and intention.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road, and I believe it’s important to be honest about that. My journey has been filled with challenges that tested my faith, confidence, and resilience at every stage.

One of the biggest struggles was stepping into entrepreneurship without a safety net. Leaving a stable job after reading Jump meant financial uncertainty, learning everything as I went, and carrying the responsibility of providing for my family while building from the ground up. There were moments when doubt was loud and progress felt slow.

I also faced systemic barriers as a Black woman entrepreneur. Access to capital, credibility, and opportunity often came with extra scrutiny. I had to work harder to be taken seriously, defend my vision, and stand firm in rooms where I wasn’t always welcomed.

Another major challenge was navigating deep personal injustice, including facing the possibility of a twenty-year sentence for a crime I did not commit. That season was emotionally and mentally demanding, and it required me to remain focused, grounded, and faithful while still leading and showing up for others.

There were also necessary business pivots, setbacks, and moments that required me to reassess, restructure, and realign. Those challenges ultimately strengthened my leadership and sharpened my purpose.

The road wasn’t smooth, but every obstacle played a role in shaping who I am today and the impact I continue to create.

We’ve been impressed with Author Iris Wright & Publishing; Wright Circle of Care, Wright Way Logistics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My work spans entrepreneurship, healthcare advocacy, publishing, and community impact, but everything I build is rooted in purpose and service. At the core of my brand is the belief that systems should serve people with dignity, access, and integrity.

Through my healthcare organization, Wright Circle of Care, I specialize in compassionate home care and telecare solutions designed to support seniors and families who are often underserved. I am known for advocating for affordable care, fair reimbursement, and innovative models that prioritize dignity over convenience. What sets my work apart is that it is built from lived experience. I don’t approach healthcare as a trend or business opportunity, but as a responsibility to protect and uplift vulnerable populations.

Beyond healthcare, I am also the founder of Author Iris Wright & Publishing and several media platforms where storytelling, education, and empowerment are central. As an author, speaker, and publisher, I focus on narratives of resilience, justice, and self-worth, including my Injustice series and children’s books that encourage confidence and identity. My platforms are designed to amplify voices that are often overlooked and to create spaces for truth, healing, and growth.

What truly sets my brand apart is that I build across industries without losing alignment. Every venture I launch connects back to advocacy, ownership, and impact. I am most proud of creating brands that are not just successful, but meaningful. Brands that open doors, challenge systems, and create real change.

What I want readers to know is this: my work is intentional. Whether through healthcare, publishing, or advocacy, my goal is to leave systems better than I found them and to create pathways for others to rise. My brand stands for service, courage, and legacy built with purpose.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Yes. My biggest advice for those just starting out is to start before you feel ready. You don’t need perfect clarity, a perfect plan, or perfect timing. You need commitment, consistency, and the courage to move even when you’re unsure. Confidence is built by doing, not waiting.

I also wish I had known earlier that everything won’t move at the same pace. Some days will feel slow, and that doesn’t mean you’re failing. Growth is happening even when it’s quiet. Stay focused on progress, not comparison.

Another lesson is to build systems early. Don’t just chase opportunities. Create structure, boundaries, and processes that support long-term success. Protect your vision and learn to say no to what doesn’t align.

Lastly, understand that your voice and experience matter. You don’t have to look like everyone else in your industry to belong. Show up as yourself, stay teachable, and trust that your journey is preparing you for more than you can see at the start.
