Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Hughes.
Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My husband, Jason, and I have been together for 31 years this year. We met at the North Georgia State Fair (classy, I know). Shortly after we met, my mother passed away, and we took custody of my five-year-old brother while also welcoming our son.
At the time, I was working for a pediatric dentist, and Jason had gained experience working for several gutter companies over the years. When the opportunity came for us to purchase an existing gutter company in Cartersville, Georgia, it was a big decision. I was nervous about starting this journey 20 years ago because we had always relied on a guaranteed income, and entrepreneurship didn’t come with that same security.
Despite the uncertainty, we took the leap—and 20 years later, we continue to grow and thrive.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth 20 years, which is true for many small businesses—especially in construction, and even more so when both husband and wife are heavily involved. Early on, one of the biggest challenges was stepping away from the security of a guaranteed paycheck and learning to navigate the ups and downs that come with owning a business.
Along the way, we faced long hours, tight budgets at times, and the constant pressure of wearing many hats while also raising a family. Building and maintaining our name in the community, staying relevant in a competitive market, and finding and retaining top-notch employees while keeping our pricing fair has always been a careful balancing act.
There were times when it was just Jason and me on a job site, or when we had to work especially hard to keep crews busy during slower seasons. Those moments tested our patience, resilience, and ability to adapt, but they also pushed us to become better problem-solvers, stronger leaders, and more intentional in how we run our business.
Looking back, those struggles were essential to our growth. They taught us perseverance, humility, and the importance of consistency. While the road hasn’t always been easy, it has been incredibly rewarding—and those experiences are a big part of why we continue to thrive today.
We’ve been impressed with C&C Gutters, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a family-owned and operated gutter company that has proudly served Cartersville and the surrounding communities for over 20 years. What started as a leap of faith has grown into a trusted local business built on hard work, consistency, and relationships.
We specialize in custom gutter and downspout installation, replacement, and solutions designed to protect homes from water damage while enhancing curb appeal. We’re known for our attention to detail, honest communication, and doing the job right the first time—no shortcuts. Whether it’s a small repair or a full installation, every project receives the same level of care and professionalism.
What truly sets us apart is our hands-on approach. As owners, we are actively involved in the day-to-day operations and often on job sites ourselves. We understand the importance of showing up, standing behind our work, and treating every home as if it were our own. In an industry where reliability can be hard to find, we’ve built our reputation on trust, fair pricing, and long-term relationships.
Brand-wise, we are most proud of the name we’ve built in the community. Our business has grown through word-of-mouth, repeat customers, and referrals—something we don’t take lightly. We’re proud to be known not just for quality craftsmanship but also for integrity, dependability, and genuine care for our customers.
What we want readers to know is simple: when you choose us, you’re choosing experience, accountability, and a local family who truly cares about protecting your home. We don’t aim to be the biggest—we aim to be the best at what we do.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m very much a face-to-face networker, and that approach has been one of the biggest contributors to my success, both personally and professionally. I believe real relationships are built through conversation, trust, and showing up in person, and this philosophy has served me well over the years.
While I occasionally listen to podcasts or read books, I’m a bit old-fashioned at heart. I still value meeting people, having meaningful conversations, and learning directly from others’ experiences. Being present in the community, building genuine connections, and maintaining strong relationships are the resources that help me do my best—both at work and in life.
I’ve served on several boards and countless committees, and that community involvement has been among my most rewarding accomplishments. Contributing, collaborating, and giving back to the community in meaningful ways has been deeply fulfilling, personally and professionally.
