Meet Tiffany Scott of Journey to Restoration LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Scott.

Tiffany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Georgia Southern University with an undergraduate degree in Justice Studies, which I was never able to use. I remember receiving letters indicating that it was getting close to the time where I needed to begin repayment of my student loans and since I wasn’t employed, I needed to figure something out quick. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I did know that I always liked helping people. I enrolled in Grand Canyon University to study Professional Counseling. During my internship, I worked at Anchor Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric facility in Atlanta. I eventually became employed there upon graduation. This was my first real dive into the behavioral health field. Working there helped me tremendously because I learned so much about the kind of clinician I was. I was exposed to not only inpatient psychiatric care, but as well as partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and utilization review. I was able to see individuals who came in during a crisis and discharge stable.
Once I obtained my full license, I was uncertain if I would ever encounter clients for therapy. I tried other ventures in the behavioral health field such as mobile crisis assessments and utilization review for managed care companies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a friend of mine encouraged me to begin seeing clients individually. I was hesitant at first, but decided to give it a try. I am the “go to friend” to hear problems and provide guidance. Initially, I explored several telehealth platforms to gain insights into the nature of this new venture. Every platform did something different and it allowed me to know if this was something that I wanted to do on my own. Tiffany Scott, LPC, MAC was the name for my counseling practice, initially. I couldn’t figure out a name, so I just chose my own. However, as years went by, my life and my vision changed. I experienced some of the darkest times that not only shaped me into a better person, but a better clinician.
The name Journey to Restoration, LLC came from my personal experience of loss and how I overcame so much grief. The name resonated with me because of the journey I had to take to get to where I am now. That is how I guide my clients in becoming a better version of themselves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Running a business hasn’t always been smooth sailing. I’ve had to overcome various challenges along the way. I had to learn how to balance my work and my personal life. I remember when I first started seeing clients in my own practice, I would handle my own billing. I stopped because I didn’t have enough protections in place in the event there was a debit/credit card dispute. I began to use another company to handle my billing. It not only saves me time, but allows me to focus more on my clients.
There were also times where I felt inadequate. I’m human, just like everyone else. Sometimes I would ask myself, well why am I even doing this? Having the support from other clinicians, including my sister, has really helped me.
Additionally, I had to learn to adapt to the slow season of my business, which typically occurs around the holidays and into the new year. That was something new for me, but since I primarily take clients with insurance…this was apart of it.

We’ve been impressed with Journey to Restoration LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed professional counselor and master addiction counselor with over a decade of experience in the behavioral health field. I am licensed in GA and NJ. I offer individual therapy via telehealth for adults aged 18 and above. My approach is direct and supportive, and I believe I’m not your typical therapist. My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where my clients can be themselves and feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings. I’m here to support them on their journey to recovery and personal growth.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Yes, I would definitely advise you to conduct thorough research and set realistic goals for yourself or your business. Identify if you want to run a private practice part-time or full-time and what that would look like for you. Determine the essential requirements for running a successful private practice and don’t hesitate to seek assistance. Involve yourself with as many support groups as possible. It allows you to get questions answered because you’ll notice, a lot of clinicians experience some of the same issues. Remember everything won’t be perfect, so learn how to take breaks and extend yourself grace when needed.
