Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Tomlinson.
Deja, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into resume writing and career coaching began long before I ever turned it into a business. I’ve always had a natural love for helping people articulate who they are—what they’ve accomplished, what they’re capable of, and where they want to go next. Over time, friends, colleagues, and even leaders would come to me for help with their resumes, letter formatting, interview prep, and other career-related decisions. What started as “Can you take a quick look at this?” became a pattern: people trusted me with their stories, and I genuinely enjoyed helping them shape those stories into opportunities.
Eventually, I realized this wasn’t just something I was good at—it was something I felt called to do. There was a real need for career support that felt human, strategic, and empowering. So I decided to turn what I loved into something bigger, and that’s how my resume writing and career coaching business came to life.
Today, I support clients at every stage of their careers, from early-career professionals to seasoned leaders preparing for their next big move. My work is rooted in clarity, confidence, and authenticity. I don’t just write resumes; I help people understand their value, tell their story with intention, and step into the opportunities they deserve.
What began as a passion has grown into a purpose-driven business, and I’m grateful every day that I get to help people transform their careers and sometimes even their lives through the power of a well-told story.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many entrepreneurs, my path hasn’t always been smooth, but every challenge has shaped the way I serve my clients today. I’m a parent, and I’ve navigated multiple relocations while building my business. Balancing family life with a full-time career meant I didn’t always have the luxury of big advertising budgets or endless hours to market myself. Instead, I had to grow through word of mouth, reputation, and the quality of my work.
Those experiences became my greatest strengths. Because I’ve built this business alongside real responsibilities, I understand firsthand what it feels like to job search while juggling life, family, and career transitions. I know how overwhelming it can be to rewrite your story, reposition your skills, or step into a new chapter—because I’ve lived it.
Balancing my business with my professional career also gives me something invaluable: real-world, up-to-date experience. I’m not coaching from theory. I’m actively working in environments where hiring decisions are made, where resumes are evaluated, and where career growth is shaped. That perspective allows me to give my clients practical, relevant guidance that actually works.
So while the road hasn’t always been easy, it’s been meaningful. Every challenge has helped me build a business rooted in empathy, authenticity, and results—and that’s exactly what I bring to every client I work with.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in helping technology and business professionals tell their stories with clarity, confidence, and purpose. My work centers on resume writing, career coaching, and strategic guidance for people navigating transitions, whether they’re stepping into leadership, shifting industries, or rebuilding after a layoff.
I’m known for blending real‑world experience with a people‑first approach. Because I actively work in environments where hiring decisions are made, I understand what employers look for, how roles evolve, and how to position someone’s value in a way that resonates. My clients appreciate that I don’t just edit documents, but I serve as a resource to help them reconnect with their “why,” articulate their strengths, and move forward with renewed confidence.
What I’m most proud of is the impact this work has on people’s lives. I’ve supported clients through layoffs, relocations, career pivots, and moments of uncertainty. Being able to motivate someone, help them see their own potential again, and guide them toward opportunities they deserve is incredibly meaningful to me.
What sets me apart is the combination of empathy, strategy, and lived experience. I understand the pressure of balancing career growth with real life, including family, moves, responsibilities, and everything in between. That perspective allows me to meet clients exactly where they are and give them practical, actionable support that feels both empowering and achievable.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: everyone has a story worth telling, and everyone deserves a career that aligns with their purpose. My job is to help them get there.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One thing that often surprises people is just how much of a continuous learner I am. I’m not someone who can sit still for long. I’m always diving into a new technology, tool, or skill. Part of it is my own curiosity, but a big part is wanting to stay sharp and up-to-date with the latest technologies, methods, and best practices so I can teach and guide others. Whether it’s a new platform, a hiring trend, or a productivity tool, I love breaking things down and showing people how to use them to elevate their careers, job search, or everyday life.
That constant learning keeps me energized, and it means my clients always get guidance that’s current, practical, and rooted in real‑world experience.
