Today we’d like to introduce you to Farrah Spearman.
Hi Farrah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Farrah Spearman, CPA – Founder & Global Tax Strategy Leader
I began my career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where I developed a strong technical foundation in income tax reporting, audit coordination, and corporate advisory. That experience provided deep exposure to ASC 740, global provision processes, and the connection between financial reporting and executive-level decision-making.
I later transitioned into industry leadership roles at The Duracell Company and National Vision, Inc., where I strengthened internal controls, supported IPO readiness initiatives, and led system enhancements that improved reporting accuracy and governance. These roles reinforced my focus on building scalable, audit-ready tax infrastructures that align with long-term strategic objectives.
At Leica Geosystems, a division of Hexagon AB, I was recruited to build a Tax Center of Excellence from the ground up. I led global provision cycles under IAS 12, designed cross-border reporting processes, and supported early Pillar II readiness initiatives. This experience strengthened my expertise in multinational tax reporting, governance transformation, and enterprise-level process modernization.
Today, I serve in a global tax reporting leadership capacity for a multinational organization, overseeing complex income tax reporting across multiple jurisdictions and advising executive leadership on effective tax rate strategy, regulatory developments, and cross-border business planning.
In parallel, I founded FH Tax & Accounting to provide strategic tax and financial reporting support to growing companies, multinationals, and entrepreneurs. Through FH Tax & Accounting, I offer:
ASC 740 income tax provision preparation and review
Quarterly and annual provision support
Deferred tax analysis and valuation allowance assessments
Audit-ready technical memo drafting
Tax function build-out and process optimization
Compliance coordination and strategic oversight
Small business tax preparation and independent tax return review services, including review of S-Corporation, Partnership, and corporate filings, reconciliation of book-to-tax differences, identification of compliance risks or missed deductions, and year-end tax readiness assessments
My objective is to help organizations build disciplined, scalable tax infrastructures without immediately requiring full-time senior leadership. I combine Big 4 training, multinational executive experience, and hands-on implementation capability to deliver practical, high-impact solutions.
I am particularly passionate about supporting small and minority-owned businesses in making informed financial and structural decisions that enable sustainable growth and long-term wealth creation.
If your organization is seeking experienced provision support, technical ASC 740 guidance, independent tax return review, or assistance modernizing its tax reporting processes, I welcome the opportunity to connect and discuss how FH Tax & Accounting can support your goals.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road.
I am a Black woman, a single mother, and I built my career in an industry where only about 3% of CPAs are Black. From the beginning, I understood that I would often be the only person in the room who looked like me — and frequently one of the only women in senior technical discussions. That reality brings both visibility and pressure.
When I earned my CPA license, I was working full time while fully supporting my daughter. I personally funded my undergraduate and graduate education and prepared for the CPA exams without the luxury of stepping away from work. There were no safety nets, no extended study sabbaticals — just discipline, sacrifice, and long nights after putting my daughter to bed.
Beyond the technical rigor, there were unspoken hurdles. In several environments, I faced quiet assumptions about my capability before I had even spoken. I’ve had to prove myself in rooms where there was little racial diversity and few female leaders to model what advancement looked like. Excellence wasn’t optional — it was required simply to be viewed as credible.
It has been challenging — and in many ways, it still is. But those challenges shaped me. They sharpened my resilience, strengthened my preparation, and deepened my empathy as a leader. They also reinforced why representation and mentorship matter so much to me today.
Every barrier I navigated became fuel — not just to succeed personally, but to create space and opportunity for others coming behind me.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been purposeful.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is peace — the kind that comes from alignment, clarity, and being present.
I find a lot of joy in simple, grounding moments: long walks where I can think and reset, staying active through exercise and weightlifting, and spending meaningful time with my family. Cooking with my daughter is especially fulfilling — it’s time to connect, talk, laugh, and create something together. Those moments remind me what truly matters.
I’m also deeply fulfilled by helping others grow. Whether it’s mentoring someone in their career, supporting a small business owner, or simply offering guidance to someone navigating a challenge, I find real purpose in seeing others move closer to their goals. Giving back — especially by creating opportunities for others to do better and build stronger futures — brings me a lasting sense of satisfaction.
And sometimes, happiness is as simple as good conversation with friends — sharing ideas, experiences, and encouragement.
For me, happiness comes from balance: peace, connection, growth, and impact.
