Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikala Streeter.
Hi Mikala, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wild Oasis Learning began with a question that’s followed me throughout my life as a learner and educator: What would school feel like if curiosity led the way?
I first fell in love with building and problem-solving while studying computer science and engineering at MIT. Later, at Stanford, I deepened my understanding of how people learn, and at Harvard I explored educational leadership and systems change. Along the way, I had the opportunity to design curriculum and learning experiences in partnership with organizations like Teach For America, Black Girls Code, Google, and others who are reimagining access to education and technology. My work was eventually shared on platforms like NPR, at SXSW, and within national education communities such as NAIS.
Each of these experiences showed me the power of education when it is engaging, hands-on, and connected to real life. They also helped me see how much potential exists when students are trusted to explore their interests and create meaningful work.
Wild Oasis Learning grew out of that vision. It’s a digital curriculum platform and learning community that partners with microschools, homeschool families, clubs, and educators to bring project-based, curiosity-driven learning to young people everywhere. Students design projects, build skills, collaborate, and showcase what they’ve learned across subjects like reading, writing, science, technology, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
Today, learners use Wild Oasis from communities across the U.S. and around the world, and the platform continues to grow through grassroots partnerships. Rather than replacing local programs, Wild Oasis strengthens them — helping trusted community leaders offer enrichment, core academics, project-based programs, and flexible learning pathways that meet the needs of their families.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges has been shifting mindsets around what education can look like beyond traditional classrooms. Families and organizations often feel boxed into rigid structures, even when those systems aren’t working for their kids.
Building curriculum that is both engaging and high-quality — while remaining flexible enough to serve many types of learning communities — takes constant iteration, feedback, and trust-building. Growing through partnerships instead of massive advertising has required patience, relationship-building, and showing real impact first.
But that community-centered growth is also what makes Wild Oasis strong and sustainable.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
