Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Hanson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
All I ever wanted as a teenager was to work in the beauty industry. I dreamed of living in a big city and doing celebrity hair. That dream led me to start cosmetology school while I was still in high school at West Georgia Technical College, where I finished shortly after graduating.
I jumped into the industry early on, but quickly learned how tough it can be when you’re just starting out. I wasn’t in the right place to grow, and financially it was hard to see a clear path forward. That’s when I decided to step away and spent years working in banking and later in the medical field.
No matter what job I was in, I always found myself drawn to people. I loved helping others, building relationships, and being someone they could trust.
In 2018, I felt pulled back to hair and decided to give it another shot. I was working full-time at a medical office, so I started doing hair nights and weekends at a local salon, trying to slowly rebuild and replace my income. It took about two years before I could finally do hair full time. There were moments where I was juggling side jobs in dental offices and online medical coding just to make it work.
When my husband and I welcomed our first child, I knew that any time away from him had to be worth it. I remember thinking, I either go all in on this and make something real out of it, or I walk away completely.
I chose to go all in.
In 2023, I became extension certified with Harper Ellis Hair Co., and that’s when things really started to click. My extension career took off, but more importantly, I fell in love with learning the business side of the industry and stepping into leadership. Along the way, I realized that helping women feel confident in my chair and helping stylists build sustainable careers were equally important to me.
That’s how Bloom Hair Co. came to life. Today, it’s more than a salon, it’s a space for women who want to feel confident and supported, and stylists who want structure, opportunity, and a long-term future in this industry. My journey hasn’t been perfect or linear, but at the heart of it all, I’ve always just wanted to help people, and create something meaningful along the way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest obstacles was simply getting established and staying financially stable in an industry that’s expensive and competitive, especially in the early years. Building a clientele takes time, and there were many seasons where I was working multiple jobs just to keep going.
Another challenge was learning that doing great hair isn’t enough, you also have to understand business, marketing, leadership, and how to protect your own boundaries. Wearing all of those hats while still showing up fully for clients can be exhausting.
Becoming a mom added a whole new layer. Balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship forced me to be more intentional with my time and more confident in my decisions. There were moments of doubt, but those challenges ultimately pushed me to grow faster and build something more sustainable.
Looking back, those obstacles shaped the way I lead today. They’re the reason Bloom Hair Co. is built around education, support, and long-term growth, for both clients and stylists.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is rooted in creating beautiful, intentional hair while always prioritizing health and longevity. I specialize in blonding, lived in blended color, and luxury hair extensions, and I am most widely known for my blonding and extension work. My approach is highly customized, focused on natural blends, seamless results, and styles that grow out beautifully and fit real life.
What sets my work apart goes beyond the technical result. I care deeply about how our clients feel. It’s about their confidence, trust, and protecting the integrity of their hair while helping them achieve the look they’ve always wanted.
Through Bloom Hair Co., our focus is giving clients options and real solutions. Whether that’s extensions, toppers. hair systems, color, or precisions cuts, we want every client to feel supported, heard, and guided toward what truly fits their lifestyle and goals. At the same time, my goal is build something different in an industry that lacks structure, stability, and long term support. I’m passionate about helping stylists turn their talent in sustainable careers. Not just a way to pay bills but a path to building the life they want and need.
That is what I am most proud of. Creating a space where both clients and stylists can grow, feel confident, and build something meaningful for the long term.
How do you define success?
I define success as building something that creates freedom, stability, and opportunity, not just for myself, but for the people around me. To me, success is being able to support my family, be present in my life, and still do work that feels meaningful.
Professionally, success looks like creating an environment where stylists can grow, feel supported, and build long term careers they are proud of. It means having structure, education, and leadership in place so people are not just surviving in this industry, but truly thriving.
But success is also deeply tied to our clients. When women sit in our chairs and leave feeling more confident, more seen, and more like themselves, that matters. Success isn’t just in revenue or growth. It’s the trust our clients place in us and the transformation they feel when they walk out the door.
At the end of the day, success is knowing that what I am building is making a real difference for my family, for my team, and for every client who chooses us.
