Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mieske.
Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started with guitar in my early teens. Found out my guitar hero Randy Rhoads studied and played classical guitar. I wanted to learn classical guitar too. I received an associate degree in classical guitar. From there I found that I was interested in orchestra music so I decided to learn viola which led to the violin as well.
I went to Central Michigan University and received a bachelor in music education in 93 and moved to Atlanta to become an orchestra teacher. I taught orchestra in the public schools then taught at private schools and became a private lesson music teacher from a music store as well as performing with groups. Which I loved as well.
I also received a Master of Performance degree from Georgia State University in 2000
GSU was an exceptional experience I was a graduate teaching assistant everything was paid for. I took as many music classes from world renowned artists as I could in the heart of Atlanta.
The pandemic hit every thing closed so I decided to start Mieske Music for in home and online music classes. Since then I’ve been working to build a clientele of my own.
I teach and play most string instruments, percussion and piano. At CMU I had to go through and learn all the instruments for my B.M.E.
Many of my students have gone on to become professional musicians themselves which has been rewarding to see and hear.
The online and in home courses have allowed me to teach students from around the world. I’ve had students from Nepal, Nigeria, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Russia, and England.
I hope to move Mieske Music forward into some retail sales and more lessons in the future.
This has been my musical journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The pandemic was the main obstacle when everything shut down. Especially for performing. This all moved to online during that time which I knew would happen someday. The technology was there ready to use. The online lessons worked better than I expected. The convenience is there for online learning. I hope to continue to build this aspect of my business though most people want in home person to person.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in string instruments performing and teaching. I have a lot of experience and education to fall back on. I feel that I can relate to people in a deep sense through music.
I am most proud that I’m doing this on my own. I feel proud when I use my own sound system to entertain people and have a great performance. It’s a labor of love.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I definitely like the cultural aspects such as concerts and live music to check out any night of the week.
Traffic being the least thing I like about the Atl.
