Life & Work with Joely Jimenez of Brooklyn, NY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joely Jimenez.

Joely, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started working at 14 years old, and from a young age I carried the mindset that if I wanted something, I had to work for it. Nothing would simply be handed to me. I worked a traditional 9–5 for most of my life, but nearly two years ago I made one of the biggest decisions of my life: I walked away and took a leap of faith on myself.

I first stepped into entrepreneurship launching an online beauty and wellness brand after my daughter, Journey’s Wave LLC, focused on clean, organic products and empowering women to care for their bodies intentionally. During that time, I was also deep in my own fitness journey. I had already earned my certification as a personal trainer, but I was afraid to actually step into it and take clients. Fear of failure held me back, but I realized that on the other side of fear is growth.

I started small, with 10 women who had no structure or routine. I didn’t charge them any money. I genuinely wanted to help. I knew what it felt like to have no guidance, and I wanted to create the kind of support system I never had. I focused on helping them build discipline, organization, and stress management, because stress is one of the biggest barriers to becoming your healthiest self.

During that same period, I transformed my own body, going from 110 to 145 pounds in under six months through pure discipline and consistency. That transformation wasn’t just physical, it was mental. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life and the true start of my career in fitness. I helped women between the ages of 22-60 lose weight and become the best version of themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course I faced struggles. One of the biggest challenges I encountered was consistency, not just within myself, but with the women I was leading. Many would start motivated but quickly feel overwhelmed and want to give up. I realized it wasn’t the workouts that were the real obstacle, it was everything outside of them. The pressure of everyday life, responsibilities, stress, and self-doubt were weighing heavily on them.

That’s when I began hosting weekly Zoom calls where we could openly discuss the barriers holding them back and challenge one another to move to the next level. Those conversations allowed me to truly see what they were facing. It became clear that transformation requires more than a fitness plan, it requires support, accountability, and mindset work.

I also made the decision to incorporate my faith more openly into my business. God has been one of the greatest sources of strength and discipline in my life. Prayer carried me through moments when I wanted to quit, and praying after my workouts became part of my routine. Introducing that into my brand felt natural and aligned. It created space for deeper transformation, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a certified personal trainer specializing in full-body toning and sustainable weight loss for both women and men. My focus isn’t just on helping clients look better, it’s about helping them build structure, discipline, and routines that support their entire life.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the loyalty and community I’ve built. I was able to secure a gym space where I now host Saturday group training sessions, and what means the most to me is that the women who come don’t just show up to work out, they feel safe. They feel supported. They feel seen. That environment didn’t happen by accident; it was built intentionally.

What sets me apart is my heart posture toward the work. While I absolutely believe in building a successful business, money has never been my primary driver. I genuinely love helping people. I love seeing someone who once felt scattered and overwhelmed develop a routine and begin moving through life with confidence and clarity. When people create structure in their health, it carries over into their careers, their families, and their mindset. And seeing women developing their relationship with Christ, reminds me that I’m living in my purpose.

For me, this isn’t just fitness. It’s transformation from the inside out and that’s what I’m known for.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always had a big, bubbly personality. I was the class clown, full of energy, always talking, always moving. I used to joke that I had ADHD because I could juggle a million things at once and still get everything done. I’ve always been outspoken and strong-willed. I may have had a tough exterior, but underneath it all, I’ve always had a genuine and caring heart.
