Meet Lakweshia Ewing of UNLEARN EVERYTHING AND LIVE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakweshia Ewing.

Hi Lakweshia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Memphis in a family of preachers, teachers, and entrepreneurs, so I grew up at the intersection of faith, community, and hustle. From an early age I could see systems … how people, resources, and opportunities connected … and that perspective shaped the way I approached leadership and business.
I started my career in the tech and business space and experienced early success, but life shifted quickly. Within the first year of my marriage, my husband and I became parents to my two younger brothers after their mother passed away. That season required me to “unlearn everything” I thought leadership, success, and stability looked like. It pushed me to rebuild life and work around purpose, not just productivity.
Out of that journey came my firm, Unlearn Everything and Live, where I help organizations, governments, and leaders put humans at the center of strategy and impact. Over time, my work expanded into executive coaching, philanthropic initiatives, leadership development, and writing — including my recent book I Did It On Purpose, which reflects the belief that purpose isn’t something you find once; it’s something you follow daily.
Today, I serve as a social-impact consultant, author, and leadership strategist, working across sectors to help people and systems align with purpose, equity, and sustainable change. My story is really about transformation … learning to release what no longer serves you so you can step fully into the life and impact you were created for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road..at all and I think that’s the honest part of any meaningful journey.
There have been seasons of rapid growth and favor, but also moments of deep stretching. Early in my marriage, my husband and I unexpectedly became parents to my two younger brothers after their mother passed away. Overnight, our life shifted. I was navigating business, grief, parenting, and identity all at once. That season required resilience and a lot of “unlearning” …. letting go of the idea that success had to look a certain way or follow a straight line.
Professionally, building a purpose-driven consulting firm hasn’t always been easy. When you choose to center humanity, equity, and faith in spaces that often prioritize profit and speed, you sometimes have to educate people on the value of that work. There were times of financial uncertainty, moments of being misunderstood, and seasons where I had to bet on myself before others fully saw the vision.
There’s also the personal side of leadership…. carrying responsibility for people, teams, and community initiatives while still caring for your own well-being. Learning boundaries, trusting God’s timing, and not tying my worth to outcomes have all been real lessons along the way.
But every challenge shaped the clarity I have now. The struggles taught me how to build systems that are sustainable, lead with compassion, and define success in a way that honors both impact and peace. It hasn’t been a smooth road …but it has been a purposeful one.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At the heart of my work is a social-impact consulting and leadership firm called Unlearn Everything and Live. We help organizations, governments, faith communities, and mission-driven businesses build strategies that put people first while still producing measurable results. Our work sits at the intersection of leadership, culture, systems change, and purpose.
What we do:
We specialize in human-centered leadership development, executive coaching, organizational culture transformation, and strategy design for institutions that want to lead with both impact and integrity. That can look like facilitating leadership retreats, advising city and nonprofit initiatives, building coaching programs for executives, or helping teams rethink how they serve communities and employees in a rapidly changing world. A lot of our work is about helping leaders “unlearn” outdated systems or beliefs so they can build healthier, more sustainable ones.
What we’re known for:
We’re known for bridging the gap between marketplace and ministry between strategy and soul. I often say we help leaders align purpose with performance. Clients come to us when they want real change, not just a training or a report. They want culture shifts, clarity, and practical frameworks that actually work in real life.
What sets us apart:
Our approach blends strategy, faith, lived experience, and systems thinking. I’ve lived through major personal transitions…. navigating entrepreneurship, and building a purpose-driven business …so I bring both professional expertise and real-life perspective. We don’t just teach theory; we build tools leaders can use immediately. We also work across sectors, so we can connect insights from government, nonprofit, business, and faith spaces in a way that’s holistic.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise:
I’m proud that our brand stands for both impact and humanity. We’ve been able to build a reputation for integrity, relationship-centered leadership, and meaningful results. I’m also proud of how our message has expanded through speaking, coaching programs, and my recent book I Did It On Purpose, which reinforces the idea that purpose isn’t something you stumble into ….it’s something you follow intentionally.
What I want readers to know:
Our work is about helping people and organizations move from survival mode to purpose-driven impact. Whether we’re coaching an executive, advising a city initiative, or speaking to a room of emerging leaders, our goal is the same: help people lead in a way that is sustainable, human-centered, and aligned with what they were created to do.
If you work with us, you can expect honesty, strategy, and heart … and a commitment to building something that lasts beyond a single project or moment.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Atlanta is the people and the possibility. Atlanta carries a deep legacy of culture, entrepreneurship, and movement-building. There’s an undeniable energy here — a belief that big ideas can be born, built, and scaled. The city is rich with creatives, innovators, faith leaders, and business minds who care about community and are willing to collaborate. It’s a place where relationships still open doors and where vision, when paired with action, can create real impact. I also appreciate the diversity of industries and voices represented here; Atlanta feels like a hub where culture and commerce meet in powerful ways.
What I find most challenging is that, like many fast-growing cities, Atlanta is still navigating gaps in access and alignment. There’s incredible talent and opportunity, but not everyone experiences that growth equally. Sometimes our strongest leaders and organizations are doing amazing work in parallel rather than in partnership. I believe Atlanta’s greatest opportunity is continued collaboration across sectors and communities so that growth is shared and sustainable for everyone.
Overall, I care deeply about Atlanta and what it represents .. legacy, leadership, and forward movement. It has all the ingredients to remain a national model for culture-driven innovation and inclusive growth. I’m grateful to know a city like Atlanta that values vision, resilience, and community impact exists.
