Today we’d like to introduce you to Darian McDaniel.
Hi Darian , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
ProBLK Health Vitamins started as a passion project between my wife, Dr. Karleena Tuggle McDaniel, and myself, Darian McDaniel, to help address the health disparities we were seeing in the Black community. One of the major reasons we started the company is because studies show that approximately 92 percent of Black Americans have vitamin and mineral deficiencies, which contributes to poorer health outcomes and the development of chronic illnesses earlier in life.
Dr. Karleena, a Howard University College of Medicine graduate and practicing physician, has spent years treating patients and witnessing firsthand the serious health challenges and nutritional deficiencies affecting our community. As a Morehouse graduate and longtime C level marketing executive, I understood the importance of building a brand and message that could truly connect with our community and inspire people to take their health seriously.
We combined our backgrounds in medicine and marketing to create ProBLK Health, not just as a vitamin company, but as a movement focused on health, education, and empowerment within the Black community.
Today, ProBLK Health Vitamins has grown into the number one Black doctor owned vitamin company, offering 24 wellness products for men, women, and children that are specifically formulated to support the health needs of the Black community.
But our mission goes far beyond supplements. Our goal is to promote health in its fullest sense body, mind, spirit, and relationships and to reinvest back into the community. That is why we are committed to donating up to 50 percent of our net profits to nonprofit organizations and initiatives focused on improving health and healing within the Black community.
At its core, ProBLK Health is about changing the narrative around health in our community and building a legacy of wellness for generations to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been helping people truly understand the value of health and wellness and the importance of prevention. Many people tend to focus on their health only after something goes wrong, but we believe that better health tomorrow starts with the decisions we make today.
Another challenge we faced early on was funding. Because ProBLK Health is built around a mission to give back to the community by donating up to 50 percent of our net profits to health initiatives, some traditional funding sources did not fully understand or align with that model. Instead of letting that slow us down, we chose to self fund the company and grow it with the support of our community.
We also had to educate people about the fact that all vitamins and wellness products are not created equal. Quality ingredients, proper formulations, and third party testing are extremely important when it comes to supplements. Many cheaper products cut corners, but when it comes to your health the old saying really applies you get what you pay for.
Despite the challenges, the support from our community has helped us continue to grow and stay committed to our mission of improving health and wellness in the Black community.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ProBLK Health Vitamins ?
What makes ProBLK Health Vitamins special is that we are more than just a supplement company. We are a mission driven brand focused on improving health and wellness in the Black community.
Our products are Black doctor formulated by my wife, Dr. Karleena Tuggle McDaniel, a physician who has seen firsthand the vitamin deficiencies and health disparities affecting our community. That real world medical insight allows us to create wellness products specifically designed to support the health needs of Black men, women, and children.
We are also deeply committed to quality. Our vitamins are made with high quality ingredients, produced in FDA registered facilities, and third party tested to ensure safety and effectiveness.
What we are most proud of is that our mission goes beyond wellness products. ProBLK Health is committed to donating up to 50 percent of our net profits to organizations and initiatives that support health and healing within the Black community.
For us, this brand is about creating healthier lives and building a legacy of wellness for our community.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For us, success is not defined only by revenue or how many products we sell. True success is measured by the impact we are able to make in the lives of people in our community.
If we can help educate people about the importance of prevention, help families fill the nutritional gaps in their diets, and empower people to take control of their health earlier in life, that is success to us.
Success also means being able to reinvest back into the community. One of the core missions of ProBLK Health Vitamins is to donate up to 50 percent of our net profits to nonprofit organizations and initiatives that support health and healing within the Black community. Being able to support programs that improve health outcomes and create more awareness around wellness is incredibly meaningful to us.
Ultimately, success for us is about building a movement that changes the narrative around health in the Black community and creates a lasting legacy of wellness for future generations.
