Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Christenbury.
Hi Liz, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was inspired to create GymNet after hearing about a friend hosting traveling Olympians at his home gym during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are apps for ordering food, rideshare, and deliveres on=demand, but there wasn’t a single app where you could book a fitness experience on-demand – whether it was a personal trainer, fitness class, or gym space.
I’ve spent the last couple of years learning from both fitness professionals and clients about their needs and further developing the GymNet app. Recently, I’ve focused on spreading awareness of GymNet in the Atlanta area by hosting pop-up group workouts at local breweries like Monday Night Brewing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a marketplace while still having a full-time job has been challenging from a time management perspective. I still want to have a healthy social life, exercise, spend time and travel with my husband, and keep building GymNet.
Using AI tools like Claude and working with marketing expert, Natalie Kalmar (@fitnessfoodiestl) have been really valuable. Claude is like a developer that I can consult 24/7. It’s helped me build out a new Workout Program feature for trainers in no time at little to no cost which is great for a startup.
Natalie has been incredibly impactful by driving our social media presence forward, engaging with trainers, and developing relationships with other fitness companies and Atlanta venues.
Another challenge is the ever-lingering problem of a double=sided marketplace – balancing demand and expectations is hard, especially with limited budget.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about GymNet?
GymNet Fitness is revolutionizing how people access fitness experiences by removing the traditional barriers of gym memberships and fixed locations. We’re a marketplace platform that directly connects fitness pros and studios with clients seeking customized fitness experiences—whether that’s in-home training, outdoor sessions, virtual workouts, or gym-based instruction.
What sets us apart:
Unlike traditional fitness models that require expensive gym memberships or lock clients into rigid contracts, GymNet offers complete flexibility. Clients can book experienced trainers for personalized sessions or join group fitness classes at local studios—all on their own terms. Our seamless Mindbody integration allows studios to manage their class schedules, bookings, and client rosters while reaching new audiences through our platform. Whether you prefer the energy of a group class or the focused attention of personal training, GymNet makes it accessible.
Our specialization:
We’ve built a comprehensive platform that goes beyond simple booking. Personal trainers can create detailed workout programs, track client progress through our built-in workout logging system, design custom nutrition plans, and manage their entire client roster. Studios benefit from our Mindbody integration, which streamlines class management and expands their reach to fitness enthusiasts across the platform. We support flexible session durations (from 30 minutes to 3 hours) and diverse class formats, allowing both independent trainers and studios to tailor their offerings to different client needs and budgets.
Exciting developments:
We’re currently launching our Studio Beta Program in Atlanta—an exclusive opportunity for fitness studios to participate in testing and refining our Mindbody integration before our broader launch later this summer. Beta participants receive early access to our platform, direct input into feature development, and preferred positioning as founding studio partners. This program ensures our studio integration meets the real-world needs of fitness businesses while helping us build the most robust fitness marketplace in Atlanta.
What we’re most proud of:
Our commitment to making fitness truly accessible, personalized, and community-driven. We’ve created competitive, tiered subscription pricing for trainers that rivals established platforms like Trainerize, while providing more flexibility and control. With 13 years of experience in tech and healthcare informing our approach, we’ve built GymNet to serve the entire fitness ecosystem—from independent trainers building their businesses to established studios expanding their reach, and clients discovering their perfect fitness match.
What readers should know:
GymNet isn’t just another fitness app—it’s a complete ecosystem for the fitness community. Whether you’re a trainer looking to expand your client base, a studio seeking to fill more classes and reach new members, or someone seeking personalized fitness guidance or the motivation of group classes on your schedule, GymNet makes it simple, flexible, and accessible. And if you’re an Atlanta-area studio interested in joining our Beta Program, we’d love to hear from you as we prepare for our summer launch.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love collaborating with other companies and brands. We’ve worked with venues like Monday Night Brewing and Brewdog to host group workouts and foster community. We’ve also collaborated with other wellness brands on discount coupons, interviews, product swaps, and social media campaigns.
Another way to support us is to book a session on GymNet with one of our amazing trainers. And, to leave them a review on the GymNet app. Reviews are so important to the success of the fitness partners on GymNet.
