Life & Work with Michael Dickerson of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Dickerson.

Hi Michael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Being born and raised in West Brighton projects in staten island where it’s nothing but drug dealers, gang members and murderers my mom tried her best to keep me out the streets but my friends had more influence on me then she did. Having no father figure my brother became that and my role model. With him being a crip I followed his footsteps and joined the gang life as a crip at 13 years old. After being in the streets for over 20 years, almost dying twice and going in and out of jail I decided it was time to leave new york city and the streets for good. When I got to Atlanta that’s when I turned my life around and became a male model being published in 37 magazines, actor in 14 tv shows and mentor promising the youth and younger generation it’s more to life then losing your life or freedom. You can come from an negative environment and do something positive with your life because I’m an living testimony of that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it was far from smooth. I almost died twice due to the street life, I watched friends die over circumstances that could of been avoided. Stress made me drink more and more thinking it was helping my pain but I was only hurting myself then I fell into becoming an alcoholic.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a brand ambassador and model for Black owned clothing brands, up and coming actor plus a mentor for the youth and younger generation teaching them you can come from a negative environment & do something positive with your life. What separates me from the rest is that I’m living proof that you dont have to be rich or famous in order to give back to the community. Also it’s never too late to turn your life around.

What matters most to you? Why?
Saving others lives and making my mother proud. If I can save at least one teenager or young adult from dying or going to prison from sharing my experiences then my job is complete.
