Today we’d like to introduce you to David Haven.
Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was in my Senior year of High School I liked watching Police K9 training videos and over time I eventually found a school that taught you how to train various working dogs. When I graduated I went to this school and learned bitework, advanced obedience, and scentwork. Over time I opened my own business and would train pet dogs with behavior issues in order to get better at my craft. After doing so for just under 10 years now I decided to apply business skill I learned from studying others to dog training and officially created K9 Coaches LLC last year. Ever since, we rapidly grew and in less than a year of officially opening we became very busy with new clients almost every single day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the pet industry seems very friendly on the outside, but is extremely elitist and antisocial on the inside. It also simply comes with any challenge that would come with a small business. I had to learn how to become financially literate, how to perfect presentation, and learn how to be a people trainer just as much as a dog trainer.
We’ve been impressed with K9 Coaches LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a dog training business that specializes in doing Private, In-Home Lessons where our goal is to turn dog owners into their own dog trainer for the issues they’re having with their pups.
Any big plans?
Our next goal is to film educational content and distribute it across the globe. Once the video-form courses are complete, I will look to take an apprentice.
