Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Adrienne.
Hi Dr., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From the age of 8 my plan was to become an Attorney, as suggested by my father due to my confident argumentative verbal skills. I went to college, double majored in Political Science and Criminal Justice, worked at the District Attorney’s office, was the president of the Pre-Law club, and went to law school. On the 1st day of the 1st class, I KNEW that I was in the wrong place. I was a recent bride, in law school, and now pregnant feeling that my life long plan to become an attorney was my father’s dream for my life and not my own. Because I was threatening to miscarry the baby who would be the 1st grandchild in both my husband’s and my family, everyone supported the doctor’s recommendation that I go on bed rest and return to law school at a later time. I began to strategize my next move for after having the baby, as I had no intentions of returning to law school. I told no one including my husband of my plans, found a program that was aligned with who I was, applied, was accepted, took out a student loan, and waited to give birth. I had the baby on July 18,1990 and started my Masters in Mental Health Counseling in August 1990. On the 1st day of the 1st class, I knew that I was in the right place and I have never looked back. As an entrepreneur, I am my own boss. Working in education for over 27 years while working parttime for myself as a Psychotherapist, gave me a spirit of comfort. I never got caught up in the “crab in the barrel” mentality of ladder climbing and ALWAYS have believed that what’s for me is for me. Because education was a female dominated field, I often experienced women not being supportive of one another’s desires for advancement. When I became licensed as a therapist, there were about 1500 licensed clinicians in Georgia and of course less than 1% were Black and making me one of the first Black females licensed in Georgia. As a result, there were often promises to help and mentor from older seasoned clinicians that never materialized into actual support, because they viewed me and every other Black female as their competition. As a result I learned the business of clinical entrepreneurship by trial and error and dedicated apart of my work to assisting those that would come behind me. I have had a very successful professional career.I am a nationally recognized Licensed Professional Counselor, a Georgia Certified Mediator, and a Certified Anger Management Specialist with over 35 years of experience empowering individuals, couples, and communities through mental health education, emotional healing, and behavioral transformation. As one of the first Black women licensed in the state of Georgia, I have built a career rooted in advocacy, equity, and expert care.
My areas of specialization include anger management, emotional regulation, trauma recovery, and relationship dynamics. I am known for my dynamic presence, culturally competent approach, and ability to break down complex mental health concepts into practical tools for everyday life.
I am also a nationally syndicated radio host and founder of multiple mental wellness initiatives, where I use media to elevate conversations around emotional well-being, social justice, and healing in the Black community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

What matters most to you?
I do this work because I have seen firsthand how unspoken pain, unresolved trauma, and misunderstood emotions can quietly shape the course of people’s lives. For more than three decades, I have been committed to helping people understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so they can make healthier choices in their relationships and in their lives.
When people gain the tools to regulate their emotions, communicate more effectively, and take responsibility for their healing, everything changes. Families become stronger. Relationships become healthier. Communities become more resilient. That transformation is why this work matters to me.
